When I was 19 years old I pledged a fraternity, and I learned one of the most important lessons of my life on how to deal with women (and others)…

So when you’re a pledge you have to drive drunk brothers around. You’re the designated driver.
One night, I was driving an older brother home. This guy always pulled smokeshows. Just 10s.
So I was driving, silently.
And in the rearview mirror I could see yet another 10 was drooling all over him.
Everything was fine until she started complaining that he had a lip in (tobacco) and that it was gross. “It’s gross. Spit it out. So nasty” etc etc
She even tried to egg me on “tell him it’s gross”
I stayed silent. This continued for a minute. She kept trying to reach for his mouth to pull it out then he stared at me through the rearview mirror.
He spit in his cup, keeping the dip in his mouth, “Hormozi - listen up. Life lesson. This girl is more attracted to the fact that I don’t give a fuck what she thinks more than she’s turned off by the fact that I dip. Watch.”
Then he proceeded to make out with her and she seemed happy to oblige.
Now I’m sure you can take this in a lot of ways, but I’ll tell you what I took from it.
—>Don’t conform.<—
Sure. Maybe I’d look better in a suit. Or I should do the things to look better.
But it wouldn’t be me.
And at the end of the day, someone pretending to be someone they’re not is never going to be as formidable as someone who’s grounded in their identity.
So whenever I feel tempted to conform, I just remember that lesson. People are more attracted to someone who is themselves than someone who bends the knee to society’s demands.
And the older I got, the less patience I had for anyone who wanted to change me.
And for a young man who was trying to figure out who they were, it was a lesson that forever shaped how I interacted with the world.
