Mr. Prime Minister @MarkJCarney,
Just today, you've adopted the position of advocating against checking citizenship at the ballot box.
Can you elaborate as to why you think visa holders and otherwise illegal voters that have made their way unfairly past our administrative checks should be able to cast a ballot (or in Alberta's case, 10 of them)?
Thank you,
A concerned taxpaying citizen
Frankly, I don't trust the Media to ask this question, so I'm asking it myself.
What the #NHL and @Rogers has done to hockey tv coverage in Canada is a fucking travesty. Rogers getting the tv rights is the worst thing to happen to the NHL in a very long time.
Terrible company run by terrible people that have destroyed hockey coverage in Canada
For the sake of F1, bring back the V8, and fast! Fuck all those complicated procedures and so called "human errors”. Do you hear me @FIA? You created a fucking mess! 😡
#SingaporeGP 🇸🇬 #F1
Now @JeromyYYC can add lying by omission to his ever growing list of bad choices.
In fact, Smith basically thanks you & Calgary’s city council for doing the right thing when it came to repealing blanket rezoning & idiocy of replacing 2 detached homes with an 8/12/16 complex that doesn’t come with sufficient parking.
She never threatened your job if you don’t vote the way she wants you drama queen, all she did was force the Mayor of Edmonton & his councillors to adhere to the wishes of the Edmontonians they were ignoring!
@RinkyReport you know what'd be easy? An NHL app that has all the games available. You select your game (regardless of market), you watch your game, your game ends, you select another game, you watch that one.
Is that so fucking hard?
There's an easy solution to this problem.
Real private sector experience, in a senior role, should be a mandatory requirement for anyone seeking a higher elected office.
Being a parent is also a good requirement.
We paid the property taxes for the water pipes to be in excellent condition. It is not our fault Nenshi did not do the work required.
Find the money by cutting out the ceremonies, woke projects, bike lane projects and defer other construction projects that can wait a year.
It really isn’t that difficult.
What about firing 20% of the bloated city staff and use that money to repair pipes?
What happened to those cash reserves the city has....they were supposed to be rainy day funds....well, these are rainy days.
And if you spent 10% of the time you spend kvetching about independence on how to get this done quickly and cheaply you'd have figured out a better plan than just taxing us more.
And lastly, all that money we have been giving over the decades that got wasted on idiotic climate crises....where'd that go?
There’s a future College, Major Junior and Pro hockey player playing on a AAA Minor, AA or A team right now All they need is someone to believe in them and give them a chance that they deserve, The door of opportunity slams shut on young players due to resume or the extra “A”
Speak for yourself.🤡
You and Mark Carney have spent a decade driving Canada’s economy into the dirt, destroying our productivity, and causing a massive housing crisis
and now you want to pick a fight with our largest trading partner to mask your own failures?
Canada does 75% of its trade with the U.S. Ruining our economic relationship with Washington doesn't make you brave; it makes you incompetent.
Stop sacrificing Canadian jobs, manufacturing, and livelihoods just to chase globalist headlines. Everyday Canadians are tired of paying the price for your ego. 🇨🇦
@ABDanielleSmith Great news! Can you keep an eye on Calgary retailers? It seems they always creep up again negating and savings when other jurisdictions do not. All summer, prices in the Crowsnest pass and even into Fernie sometimes were less expensive than in Calgary.
@RobWardCGY@daschenbrener Same old reply, always straight to services. Across the board to "in house" city hall employees and managers is what is required. Run it like a business and cut the waste.
City Council is looking at approving the LARGEST property tax hikes in decades: 15% in 2027, 10% in 2028, 7.6% in 2029 and 6% in 2030.
This is simply UNACCEPTABLE.
There needs to be a huge shift in priorities.
Focus on infrastructure, public safety, and core city services. We need to make cuts in all areas that are not core responsibilities of municipalities.
I will be advocating for and proposing spending cuts as we get closer to the budget deliberations.
Many members of council ran on fiscal responsibility, it's time to keep our commitment to Calgarians and focus Calgarians tax dollars on needs, not wants.
Alberta introduced health-care premiums with the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan after joining national medicare in 1969. By the mid-2000s the rates were roughly $44 a month for a single person and $88 for a family. Employers were required to collect the fee, and in practice most of them paid it on behalf of their employees as a work benefit. Seniors were exempted in 2004. The Stelmach government abolished the premiums in '09, citing a surplus. A later attempt to revive an income-tested version never took effect.
I think it made sense to have a modest premium. It brought visibility to the fact that heathcare is not "free".
A modest premium still makes sense for non-permanent residents, especially in the first year or two after they arrive. Temporary workers, students and other newcomers come without a long tax-paying history in Alberta. General-revenue funding therefore shifts the full cost of their hospital and physician care onto permanent residents from day one. A time-limited premium, payable on arrival or through the first 12–24 months, recovers a share of that cost while they establish residency, start contributing through their taxes. It is the same logic the United Kingdom uses with its health surcharge for visa holders.
Because employers historically absorbed most of the old Alberta premium, a similar arrangement for temporary workers would probably occur. Make the companies applying for TFW pay their premium
Coverage would remain universal. After a short qualifying period the premium could lapse. That is a targeted, time-limited user contribution, not a barrier to care.
Smith is on the right track with this one.
You don’t have to want independence to vote Option 2.
You only have to want Danielle Smith to have leverage.
Option 1 sends her in empty-handed. That’s why I asked remain voters to look at this differently.

Even stay-in-Canada Albertans should vote Option 2.
It’s not a vote to leave. It’s a vote that Ottawa’s current deal is broken — and it gives Danielle Smith the leverage she needs.
Option 1 tells Carney we’re fine with the status quo. We’re not.
