People outside America don’t realize how frustrating it is to be an American in the post Cold War era, we basically bankroll the entire western world AND keep them safe, all at massive cost to our own people and literally all of them just hate us and make fun of us incessantly
@poperespecter1 Your original point was that different liturgies, different prayers, and different languages causes division in the church. This is what I disagree with.
If that first point is true, then why allow for the eastern rites to exist? The differences are part of what makes us Catholic, the other part being unity with the Pope.
The TLM is still available in Tyler Texas as the letter states. But with that being said, there are several concerns that Francis has expressed with the TLM:
1- Different liturgies, different readings, different prayers, create a less Catholic church. Parallel churches.
2- The TLM has been coopted by schismatics who denigrate the ordinary form, Vatican 2 and the Pope himself
3-Part of the Vatican 2 mandate was to modify the mass to make participation easier and more accessible to everyone. The TLM was originally changed to the Ordinary Form by Pope St. Pius VI specifically to try to respond to this mandate. So those who reject the Ordinary Form are in many ways rejecting this pastoral mandate of Vatican 2.
@poperespecter1 Like I said, the maronites never entered schism. I know my history on this. The uniform Latin rite is not what defines Catholicity, and never has been.
@poperespecter1 That’s simply not true, the eastern rites have existed since the start of the Church, even pre-dating our beloved Latin rite, and certain groups like the maronites never schismed. There used to be many more rites, across Western Europe, but they were restricted in the 1200s
