@isnit0 @pursuitofprog You are assuming that pensioners are not still paying tax etc- in fact, higher % pay than under 65s… just ignoring the investment points others have made, you need to look at ongoing contributions, not just previous.
@RobertJenrick Eventually, only people who have never worked or contributed will get a state pension under this proposal, which is a strange incentive when you are younger. greater % pensioners pay tax than under 65s. Including on their pensions. effective means test now through pension credit
@RobHarris@DAaronovitch Would be better if the off side rule was amended so that there has to be a significant difference in alignment- original rule was to prevent “ goal hanging” not measuring finger lengths .. would stop a lot of VAR delays
Johnson and Starmer have a tendency to U-turn under pressure; sending backbenchers out to defend unpopular policies one day which are reversed the next is a surefire way to lose support. But it’s not only U-turns that cause disaffection.

@griffitha Agreed- either the govt think through changes properly before announcing them ( or understand them) or they don’t. They are U turning on most major decision after pressure group and opposition campaigns. Who is actually running the country??
@BBCSimonJack It isn’t just pubs but all premises based retail outlets. Surely they spotted the net impact before announcing the changes? It seems that every major decision is reversed once trade bodies and opposition parties complain. Starmer / Reeves either believe in the changes or not?!
