Let’s even put aside the constant negative media narratives against him for a second.
Cristiano Ronaldo paid his dues mehn.. He’s rightfully at the top today.
He’s easily the 2nd best of all time for me, GOAT debates were vindicated especially during the mid 2010’s when he was outshining Messi, had a much better big game record than Messi, won a Euros etc.
In terms of legacy, Messi’s prime and longevity mogged, but the debates weren’t for nothing. Ronaldo had an aura to him no other footballer in history has had, in that he was simply inevitable. No game state could stop the man from clutching up when it mattered.
Let me be clear about Cristiano.
And I hope it's the last time I make such a declaration.
I am a lover of football first, foremost, and last.
I was never a fan of Ronaldo, nor did I ever really gravitate to his football aesthetically.
When your favorite players are Maradona / Zidane / Rui Costa / Figo etc - players who are collectivist and have a broader vision of the pitch - you just don't gravitate to Ronaldo.
However, I will say this. He is undoubtedly as great a player both in talent and achievement as any that has come before (or with) him. I prefer what Diego proposes with the ball. I don't think Ronaldo could ever replicate Diego's heroics in 86. But I don't think Diego could guarantee the inevitable goal against every opponent in the UCL and lead to a 3peat.
That is to say - Ronaldo is a pillar of our sport. There is no history of football without Ronaldo. Whether you like or dislike his football. Whether you like or dislike his personality. He has always been divisive - some of it is due to his personality and some of it due to an impossible and deepseated hatred in Anglo-media since 2006 that never let up and that we can all see. I have never seen a player travel to every stadium in England - even his own - and get booed for a year. And the scorn that he has had to face never let up - with vultures ready to pounce st the first sign of trouble.
Sport is about the human spirit. Teaching us to persevere against all odds. Consistency, discipline and courage when the going gets tough. THAT is the lesson sport imparts for our children. THAT is why some sportsmen are heroes.
What Ronaldo is doing at 41 is nothing short of an UNPRECEDENTED sporting achievement and act of singular heroism. The sheer amount of work necessary and the willpower to fight against the dying of the light to represent his country. An indomitable spirit. If that isn't enough to stir and inspire you - I don't what can. This is beyond commendable - it is inspiring. He has embarked on an impossible mission - to show us that the human spirit has no limits. Do we tell a an explorer NOT to attempt to travel to the moon? Because it is near impossible and fraught with risk? Or do we applaud and cheer on a man in his bravery? Food for thought.
But beyond that, the recent deluge of vitriol, wanton disrespect, and media pile-on is frankly disgusting and evil. It is evil because you are spitting in the face of a 150 year old tradition and culture that we call football. The culture we call home and brings together billions of people. Cristiano is football. And football is Cristiano. Whether you love, hate or are ambivalent about him. And for that, a modicum of respect as a fan of the game for OUR game is necessary.
To see charlatans and half-achievers and no-names aspire for clicks and media fame and buzz to keep their name going or out of some tragic, personal hate and dislike for a man is saddening. It is saddening because these people do not belong in the culture they desecrate. The culture they weaponize, utilize, and instrumentalize but provide nothing to. Today we reject these people. We won't accept them in our circle anymore.
Forza Cristiano. Against the dying of the light.
If there’s one thing I blame Cristiano Ronaldo for, it’s changing his personality.
I miss the arrogant, ruthless, selfish Ronaldo… the one who demanded the spotlight and imposed his presence on everyone, whether they liked it or not.
This softer version built on affection, love, and trying to please everyone doesn’t work with this generation.
Sometimes greatness needs ego, and the villain aura is exactly what makes people follow.
Dari perspektif Islam, itu tandanya kita semakin kurang barakah waktu. Ia juga adalah salah satu tanda kiamat.
“The Hour will not be established until time passes quickly a year like a month, a month like a week, a week like a day, a day like an hour.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 1036)
When people say Ronaldo decided to add goals to catch up with Messi, that statement always make me laugh
Your write is good but it's not balanced
Let me do a proper breakdown for you
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi comparison first came up in 2007/2008 season during the FIFA Award
It continued that season.... When Manchester United met Barcelona in the Champions League semifinal, it surfaced again...
At that time Ronaldo was having a majestic season already
I remembered when Xavi was asked what he thinks about Ronaldo and Messi...
'Ronaldo is ahead but Messi needs to add goals to his game' - Xavi in 2008
Before Ronaldo started scoring goals......
One of Manchester United's assistant coaches, Rene Meulesteen was the man responsible for Ronaldo's change in style from just a fleet footed dribbler to a winger that scores goals and the complete footballer you see today
Studying Ronaldo's style as someone who wants to dazzle and humiliates opponents, and score just worldies
Meulesteen gave him the videos of Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Alan Shearer for him to study
That was the beginning of Ronaldo's change in style
Sepp Blatter vs Ronaldo
In April 2013, FIFA President labelled Ronaldo a commander while praising Messi as a good boy who every parent would love to have
It was a jibe and mockery on CR7's personality. Blatter later apologized to Ronaldo for his comments
In 2013, the FIFA Ballon d'Or didn't get enough votes after the deadline day, hence it was extended for one week or so
Fortunately for Ronaldo, it was the FIFA World Cup qualifiers between Portugal and Sweden - Ronaldo scored a hattrick and the performance triggered the votes, that was why he won
Messi didn't care much? Who told you that?
In 2010, Lionel Messi was complaining about his inability to score freekicks
During one of the international duty with Argentina, Diego Maradona took Messi aside and taught him some techniques on how to score freekicks
From that moment, he practiced more and became better at it
If you think the rivalry didn't get to Messi, you are deceiving yourself
The only thing is the media likes Messi more than Ronaldo, so he had less pressure and felt protected than CR7 in those early days which is a mental advantage on Messi side
You think Messi didn't feel the pressure when Ronaldo won back to back Ballon d'Or?
In the book titled the Ronaldo and Messi biography written by Guillerm Ballague, Messi admitted the rivalry, the pressure and how he wants to outdo Cristiano
If you also think Messi doesn't want to score goals, you are also deceiving yourself
There was a reason why Zlatan Ibrahimovic failed at Barcelona, he was sacrificed for Lionel Messi
Zlatan hit the ground running until Messi was moved to central position by Pep Guardiola thereby marginalizing Zlatan
While Zlatan sought explanations, Pep didn't answer him and that was the end of his career at Barcelona
That move by Pep enhanced Messi's output
The media didn't force anything, both players were on the same level till Ronaldo finally ditched the wing forward and moved permanently to a central position at Manchester United
Ronaldo has more than 300 assists in his career, that's more than most of the favourites midfielder total career assists
When you say he is not creating, I just laugh!!!
Waalaikumussalam
Fun to see Europeans and even Americans saying they’re ’staying up’ for the South Korea vs Czech Republic game. For once we are not the one ‘staying up’ 😂
Guardiola jobless.
Martial clubless.
Pogba useless.
Shaw shapeless.
Rashford homeless.
And Mourinho back at the summit of world football.
The arc of football justice is complete.
People respect you more when they don't see you often. Even parents. Trust me. It's strange how distance rearranges love, how absence restores what closeness erodes. When people are deprived of your presence, they start seeing you clearly again, not through habit but through awareness. Proximity dulls perception. Space sharpens it. That's just how the human mind works.
