I spent over two decades in counterterrorism and I’m still involved in many ways, so here are my views on what I see has happened over the past 24-36 hours in the UK:

Five British men in their twenties were arrested on Sunday near RAF Fairford on suspicion of explosives offences and the preparation of a terrorist act. On Monday they were released on police bail.

That’s not what the terrorism clock looks like when the investigators are still in charge of it.

Under ordinary UK criminal law a suspect can be held for 24 hours, stretched to 36 by a superintendent, and to 96 hours by a magistrate.

But under section 41 of the Terrorism Act the first hold is 48 hours, not 24 hours. A judge can then extend it, in stages, up to 14 days without a charge. If the case merits it, it can even be pushed to 28 days. That 14-day cap exists for exactly this kind of file of vans, an airbase the United States uses, a possible foreign hand, explosives (if there were any) and interviews that are not finished on the first night.

Counter-terrorism police said the inquiry isn’t over. They said conditions apply. They said a state link has not been ruled out. Those sentences he said only make sense if the evidence trail was still live. A live trail is why Parliament built the two-week window.

But watching the guy read out the statement showed me in his body language, tone and eye movements that releasing those five men was NOT his or his department’s decision.

Walking five men after roughly a day is what you do with a pub fight, not with a suspected terrorist attack on a bomber base.

I’ve sat in enough interrogation rooms to know the difference between a custody clock and a political ceiling. Nobody had to shout an order down a phone. Someone in the political building above the investigators decided that charging British nationals on Monday, with Iran already denying it, Washington watching the runway, and a Labour conference where the main topics of discussion were prioritizing Palestinian and other refugees settling in the UK, was uglier than bail and a holding statement.

The law allowed them to keep the door shut. Yet the door opened anyway in half of the most minimum time.

That’s the story. That for me is the only story here. Not “they were innocent.” Not “the case collapsed.” The statute was not exhausted, but the appetite was.

The real question is who, and most importantly, why?

What is about to happen to Britain is truly INSANE.

Thanks to Andy Burnham's Labour, all kinds of community & "faith" groups will now be able to "sponsor" refugees who will be identified by ... the United Nations, which is not accountable to the British people and has no connection to our democracy.

A distant, unelected, unaccountable, and international group of woke bureaucrats will now wield enormous influence over our supposedly sovereign immigration policy here in Britain.

Those refugees will then automatically be given Indefinite Leave to Remain, including full access to housing, the NHS, medical and social services, and will almost certainly be able to bring in their relatives, too, such as the Gaza-born mother who recently brought a family of 18 into Britain under "human rights" laws.

Remember all those kebab shops and fraudulent businesses that were sponsoring visas for migrant workers during the Boriswave? Well, this is what we about to witness on an entirely new level with all those "community sponsors". Woke charities, foundations, mosques, secretive "faith groups" bringing in whoever they choose and then putting them in housing that, apparently, we do not have enough of for British people.

Ask yourself: do you really trust the British state to properly scrutinise these "community sponsors" when it cannot even control our own borders?

And remember all those credible studies showing how the Boriswave is about to impose a bill of roughly £600 BILLION on the British people? Well, expect that bill to get bigger and bigger because most of the people Labour will now bring in will be low-wage, low-skill migrants from the likes of Afghanistan and Gaza.

And what about the hardworking British people? Where are they in all this? They are once again being treated like second-class citizens in their own country, forced to live with a policy they never voted for, or asked for.

They will now end up having to subsidise yet more waves of migration including endless amounts of "chain migration" through family reunification.

The British people are generous and tolerant but enough is enough. They have already supported 400,000 refugees from Hong Kong & Ukraine, and provided billions in support for illegal migrants and Boriswave 'deliveroo' workers, who take more out of the economy than they put in.

Don't the British people deserve decent schools, hospitals, more prisons, and borders that work? Don't they deserve politicians who put them first before opening the door to yet more migration from radically different nations and cultures?

If you feel outraged by what is happening to your country then vote Reform. There is no other alternative. It was the Tories who ENDORSED the UN migration pact in the first place, and while Restore voters are right to feel angry they are dividing the Right and handing Labour the keys to the country for another five years.

If the broad patriotic majority does not consolidate and reject these changes then they will lose heavily and this policy will not just become permanent but it will utterly transform the country and its population.
