Heavenly Father,

We lift Tommy before You as he prepares to face another court hearing. Draw close to him in the waiting, in the courtroom, and in the quiet moments when uncertainty is hardest to carry. You know the burdens he bears, the concerns he keeps to himself, and the strength he needs for the days ahead. Help him to know that he is neither forgotten nor alone.

Give him a clear mind, a steady heart and the courage to face each moment with dignity. When he is weary, renew his strength. When he is anxious, quiet his thoughts. Surround him with people whose counsel is wise, whose friendship is faithful and whose care asks nothing in return.

Lord, we ask for justice that is honest, impartial and free from political pressure. Let the evidence be examined carefully, his defence be heard fully, and every decision be guided by truth. Where there is injustice, bring it into the light. Where power is misused, give people the courage to challenge it. Let neither prejudice nor public hostility stand in the way of a fair hearing.

Grant his legal team wisdom, diligence and clarity. Give everyone entrusted with this case the integrity to fulfil their responsibilities faithfully, remembering the human lives affected by their decisions. Protect the freedoms of conscience and expression, and help us all to exercise them with honesty and responsibility.

Place Your protection over Tommy and those he loves. Keep them safe from harm, threats and intimidation. Hold his children and family close in Your care. Ease the strain of waiting and the pain of circumstances they cannot control. Through the kindness and practical help of others, remind them that they do not carry this burden alone.

Lord Jesus, sustain Tommy’s faith through this uncertainty. Keep bitterness from taking root, and preserve his capacity for compassion. Give him the humility to seek Your guidance, the strength to act with integrity, and the grace to hold firmly to his convictions without surrendering his heart to hatred.

Guide those who stand beside him. Let their support bring comfort, their words remain truthful and their actions remain peaceful. Teach us to seek justice with determination and to remember mercy, even when emotions run high.

Father, we ask for truth to prevail, for any injustice to be put right, and for relief and peace for Tommy and his family. As he walks into that courtroom, let him carry the assurance of Your presence. Give him grace for each hour, hope for the future, and rest when the day is done.

So I’m finally back home from the beautiful city of Lodz in Poland after attending my first ever powerlifting World Championships. I met this fabulous human being the Amazonian powerlifting Queen that is Laura Baxter. Having this absolute legend in my corner supporting not just myself but the entire Scotland team was just epic. Having greatness near you means it’s almost certain some of that greatness will rub off on you. Well in the case of Team Scotland greatness was showered over the entire team.

This was our biggest team to date at a worlds. 17 athletes made the trip to Pabianice. As a team we came away with:

🏅11 gold medals
🥈4 silver medals
🥉1 bronze medal
4️⃣1 x 4th place in a very competitive category.

🏆2 x 3rd places in best of the best trophies

🌍 1 x world record
🇪🇺 5 x European records
🇬🇧 6 x British records
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿25 x Scottish records.

I myself came away a world champion and with a new Scottish record, all Feds British record and a GPC European record which I broke twice on the day. The previous record having been 63kg in masters 2 under 52kg. My record is now 70kg. I now hold records in 3 weight classes. I’m super proud of myself and for me this is only just the beginning. Next year the Worlds will be in Hungry and I will be there and team Scotland will be even bigger and we are going to rule the fucking world.

Our daughter Leah Croucher went missing on 15 February 2019, walking to work. Her body was found three and a half years later, in the loft of a house half a mile from our family home.

The man who killed her, Neil Maxwell, was a convicted sex offender with a history of serious offending going back to 1998. Months before Leah disappeared, he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman and was sentenced to a Community Order, not prison. The Probation Service wrongly classified him as medium risk instead of high risk. He then missed a number of Probation appointments, and a police officer raised concerns about his lack of communication just weeks before Leah went missing. He evaded arrest for six months. During that time, he murdered Leah and took his own life.

The Coroner ruled that Leah was unlawfully killed, and that failures by the Police and Probation Service in monitoring Maxwell "may have played a part" in her death.

That's why we, Leah's parents, are calling for Leah's Law: a mandatory minimum prison sentence for anyone convicted of a third sexual offence. 
Mandatory minimums already exist for domestic burglary and Class A drug trafficking. There's no justifiable reason sexual offending should be treated more leniently. By a third conviction, it is self-evident that the offender has not been sufficiently deterred from further offending.

Where a case falls below that threshold, we are calling for a District Judge to oversee sentencing in all repeat sexual offence cases, so a decision like the one that let Maxwell walk free can never be made again.

This would have ensured he had no opportunity to kill Leah, and that the risk he presented on his release would have been vastly reduced.

🚨An independent review into the murder of Henry Nowak has been announced by the Home Secretary. It's led by Alex Chalk KC.

It will look at:

- what was known about the killer and any missed chances to intervene
- how the Nowak family were treated by the justice system
- the IOPC's and, if necessary, the police's actions, but only after the IOPC finishes its own investigation.

The initial report is due within 5 months. The family have waited long enough for answers.

It’s the right thing to do @ShabanaMahmood but appalling that Henry’s family have even had to fight this hard to get the ‘independent review’.
I have no doubt the abject failures of our public agencies will once more be shamefully exposed.
