SCAM ALERT! - HOW I ALMOST GOT SCAMMED TODAY!

Today morning at around 9.30 AM I got a call from '[phone]' FedEx customer care saying a package has been rejected at Mumbai Customs Dept for having illegal substances.

This person said my name and phone number is on the parcel and it was being sent from Mumbai to Taiwan with allegedly 1 laptop, 5 passports, 3 credit cards, 150 gm of MDMA. Parcel #228932129185 (I checked on fedex tracking later. No record of it)

After this the FedEx person (another scamster) redirected me to someone from Andheri Police station to report this incident.

This policeman(scamster) claimed to be some 'Naresh Gupta Banerjee' from Andheri Police station. (See ID below) I curiously asked, "are you bengali?", looking at this name. He straight up denied (red flag 1)

He pretended to take my statement over skype (live:.cid.6b4b9a37774e0d22) and at the end asked for my email, Photo and Adhar card saying it's needed for some CCTV verification. This was a stupid mistake from my end.

At this point, I asked for his photo and identity proof anything other than his police ID just to be sure. To which he said he's a cop and he doesn't need to share his adhar. (red flag2)
When I pressed him further, he said he'll send cops to my home and then I'll know who I was talking to.

I haven't shared any OTP at any point. So I think, I am safe for now.

@MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice Please take necessary steps on this. I also have a call recording and chat history in-case it's needed.

@Skype @Microsoft Can you please tighten the security on skype?

I hope these fraudster get caught soon and are put behind bars. Stay alert everyone.
