if you still think thereās such a thing as perfect parenting just know that Iām a pediatrician and parenting author and my toddler is eating strawberries dipped in ketchup for dinner tonight
Many, if not most, infants will need at least some amount of formula supplementation to reach their optimal health, writes @rebekah_diamond.
Yet too many moms equate using formula with failure:

The infant formula shortageĀ is being used by people to further theĀ stigmaĀ against formula ā and theĀ shamingĀ of parents who use it, writes @rebekah_diamond.
The popular conception that parents can simply rely on breastmilk is misguided and dangerous:

Dangerous antiabortion policy
Critical infant formula shortage
Shoddy breastfeeding support
No parental leave
Covid precautions lifted
No vaccines for <5
Inadequate healthcare for families
All seemingly ok with the āpro-lifeā crowd.
How can our society tolerate this?
why is my 4 year old crying?
apparently I āliedā to her by explaining that Iām a mammal (like all other humans) because mammals drink milk but mommy only puts milk in coffee.
this was not in the pediatrician or parenting handbooks yāall.
And remember: though Covid gaslighting is intense and inescapable, you are not alone. Find your community, like I did, at https://t.co/QGwWcpA1Vp. Follow allies like @DrEricDing, @EricTopol, @DataDrivenMD, @gregggonsalves, @kavitapmd, @acweyand, & @DrScottHadland. Keep fighting.
Agreed agreed agreed!! And to @snarkypeds @parentlikeaped and the @unbiasedscipod these docs have been a true beacon of love, light & hope by debunking falsehoods, explaining things & advocating for our kids & better sourcing of information. THANK YOU!!!!
There are wide inequities in vaccine uptake by schools and communities across NYC. There are schools with vaccine uptake only in the high 30s%. These are the same schools that are overcrowded and without adequate ventilation. Removing mask policies in these schools is dangerous.
Parents, itās society thatās failing your children, NOT you.
As you are forced to take on preventable risk, I know you will succeed in helping your child navigate an unjust world.
This is NOT the same as resignation.
My community of pediatricians + parents will keep fighting.
Getting screamed at that covid isnāt bad for kids after spending the day in the hospital seeing how bad covid in fact is for kids (in so, so many ways) is a real mindf***k
It's pretty amazing that all these years American parents have been following the 'No Peanuts' rule in schools, even though *their* child doesn't have peanut allergy.
4 years ago, bogged down by postpartum anxiety and overwhelmed by parenting expectations, I promised to use my writing to help other parents.
Thanks to @KensingtonBooks@AevitasCreative @JJBrouckaert + do many others, I know Iāve followed through.
