Another music department earmarked to go. This is a really big deal. Cardiff's Music department is large, well-resourced, and much esteemed. If Music can go at a Russell Group university like this, then no course is safe. https://t.co/WrW4ECtD5C
University crisis latest, and very bad indeed: Cardiff are proposing to cut 7% of their academics, and to drop a whole array of programmes including ancient history, modern languages and music. Predictable and yet still shocking. 1/4
@CamdenCouncil according to your website "In Camden, noisy building works can be carried out without any authorisation:
Saturday from 8am to 1pm"
Still going at gone 4pm
Would you want to live with this 6 out of 7 days?
@BBCRadio3 I had no idea it was percieved listeners of this channel had such an interest in the Oscars & cinema music. I don't so I turned the radio off
True! Schrödinger wanted to show how this idea of quantum superposition is incompatible with our common sense and everyday experience: where objects have definite and observable properties. He imagined a scenario where a cat is placed in a sealed box with a radioactive source,m + a Geiger counter + a vial of poison. The radioactive source has a 50% chance of decaying in one hour .. and if it does .. the Geiger counter triggers the release of the poison which kills the cat. If it does not decay the cat remains alive.
According to the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics (which was the dominant view at the time) the radioactive source is in a superposition of decay and not decay .. until someone opens the box and observes it. This means that the cat’s fate is also in a superposition of alive and dead .. until the box is opened. Schrödinger argued that this is absurd .. because the cat cannot be both alive and dead at the same time. He said that there must be something wrong with the Copenhagen interpretation .. or the way we apply it to macroscopic objects.
@BBCRadio3 curious to know whose idea it was to dedicate an entire day to film music. Just turned the radio on & about to turn it off. Finding this is happening more & more often. The outcome of a controller who used to work for Classic FM?
Scientists are finding ever-earlier examples of artistic expression in the archaeological record that reshape what we know about the abilities of Neanderthals and other archaic humans https://t.co/7nhciXyPkP
“The idea that politicians are celebrating one set of protesters while cracking down on others is chilling. A country that only allows you to demonstrate on issues it agrees with is the very definition of authoritarian." https://t.co/xYKo4pje9Z
How to justify selling "tribal arts" as told by a dealer:
"We sell only authentic works of art; that is, objects that were made by indigenous people for their community and culture rather than for sale to outside markets...." So, why are you selling them?
I spent both days in court - and it has the makings of a fascinating case, not really so much for protest law though of course it is, but the essence of the challenge is really a constitutional one of interest to many...
It was great to hear argument so ably & articulately put
What word comes to mind when the public are asked to think about debates in Parliament, it's not a positive selection - unsurprisingly after recent weeks (months/years) chaos dominates, followed by childish and waste of time.
@jjohnstonmezzo @BBCRadio3@BBCSounds True but scheduling does make a difference & matter; if it didn't changes wouldn't be regarded as necessary. The nature of the changes tell their own story.
It's a pity it's only 5 weeks until the scheduling change! Yet another modification which is entirely misconcieved in my view. I'm really not interested in more 'issues'. My Saturday mornings won't be the same without Record Review on the radio. Sad to see you moved!
We're still here!😉 Heading for the shock and awe of Haydn's Military Symphony in Building a Library at 1030. Allyson Devenish @mapleivory has the latest albums from Nash Ensemble, Lang Lang & Michael Spyres @Spikelmyers ...plus 200th b'day Smetana from the @CzechPhil@BBCRadio3
