Did you ever find such green-brown ooze on #soil in your neighborhood? This is a colony of #cyanobacteria, genus #Nostoc! They fix Nitrogen and do photosynthesis. A rare case of wild #bacteria that you can see without a microscope. Once you know them you can find them :)

This will involve collecting the last samples of the growing seedlings, with the final removal of the entire plant itself afterwards.
Joel will specifically work on extracting the root exudate from the live roots of the 𝘎𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘢 𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘢 seedlings. 🌱🌿
The only thing that gets me more excited than the incredible tropical forest science at #TRACE is the spectacular TRACE team. What an amazing group of scientists at all career stages working to advance our understanding of these phenomenal ecosystems and their responses to change

Graduate students Gabriela & Parker are back at the TRACE field site after finishing their semester at @okstate. They'll be continuing their work with the shadehouse experiment as well as their thesis projects under @BeneBachelot. 👨🔬#ForestWarming

We recently took out soil cores from the TRACE plots for the Shadehouse experiment. They were taken from experimentally warmed and control plots. As you can see, soil coring is quite the workout! 🔨 #ForestWarming

University of Hamburg graduate student Carol Miron led the TRACE field team to the Drought Experiment at El Verde Field Station to install minirhizotron tubes as part of her PhD work.
