@bostoniangrrl@slothslug138620@tessiesbestie Are you referring the event in which a group of Irish redcoats shot a mob of Bostonians and then they were defended by John Adams, who defended the soldiers by referring to being provoked by "Irish teagues" (Catholics) to garner sympathy with the jury (successfully I might add).
@BramhamAlex Regardless of what you think of the robustness of the report, it's not a subject that is worthy of laughter. Why would you film yourself giggling over a report about the systematic rape of all those girls and then upload it? It negates any other point you might have to make.
@unify_knowledge@DaveShapi I'm kind of glad they are. Why would we want to find out the security flaws the in house researchers missed the hard way when we are all dying from some engineered bio weapon made by a maniac or a terrorist?
@SethL_intheWord@DeryaTR_@RegenRene@DarioAmodei@AnthropicAI@selfxyz America's lead depended upon being able to attract the best talent from around the world. China alone produces almost 5 times as many STEM graduates as the US. Europe collectively also churns out twice as many STEM grads as the US. They will not sit idle.
@SethL_intheWord@DeryaTR_@RegenRene@DarioAmodei@AnthropicAI@selfxyz DEI mandates are not going to stop an extremely talented ai researcher getting a job. The fact is that a significant chunk of the world's top ai talent is not American, and they obviously arent going to want to work building something they aren't even allowed to use.
@SethL_intheWord@DeryaTR_@RegenRene@DarioAmodei@AnthropicAI@selfxyz If the US decides it won't let non us citizens have access to mythos, then it won't be an option. They will have to leave and establish other companies outside the US. If foreign talent can't even access the models they helped create why would they do anything else?
@theNoisecaster@RegenRene@DarioAmodei@AnthropicAI@selfxyz There is absolutely no way of denying foreign access to fable and mythos without also denying access to ordinary US citizens. It would have to be limited entirely to us citizens with high security clearance under extreme government oversight and monitoring.
@tdworz@RegenRene@DarioAmodei@AnthropicAI@selfxyz Even from a "selfish" perspective, they cannot ban foreign access to a model without also denying access to ordinary US citizens who don't have high level security clearance from the US government acting as a gatekeeper. The US Federal Government will control everything.
@slum_dog8@RegenRene@DarioAmodei@AnthropicAI@selfxyz I don't think that is going to how it works. You cannot deny foreign access to something like Mythos and Fsble without also denying it to every US citizen who doesn't have high security clearance from US government to access it. US plebs will have no more access than any outsider
@SethL_intheWord@DeryaTR_@RegenRene@DarioAmodei@AnthropicAI@selfxyz The US doesn't have a monopoly on nuclear research either. Like I say, you can't nationalise maths and physics. Eventually, other countries will develop mythos-style models if China and the US decide to not let anyone else have them.
@DeryaTR_@RegenRene@DarioAmodei@AnthropicAI@selfxyz Those researchers will simply go to other companies in other countries and develop alternatives beyond us juristiction. You can't nationalise maths and physics. Any country on earth can develop advanced ai given time.
@MarkJoh86998272@DrEliDavid@DarioAmodei How can he defy a national security directive of the US Gov? Anthropic is based on the US under US jurisdiction. He has no choice.
@GolfPirate369@AnthropicAI@_genk__ Not a viable market for tech? Seems a bit exaggerated. Not sure where the regulations and directives are better either. Certainly can't be the EU.
@farukguney@UlyssesSaicha@AnthropicAI Most of the AI companies based in the UK are us owned though. So they have the same problem. The UK does have the human talent, but not the capital or infrastructure to develop it's own models beyond US Government control.
@UllaLauridsen@GlennDowdy6@TRobinsonNewEra If its anything like the guards in the UK armed police will be in the background doing the real guard work largely out of public sight, and they will have been on heightened alert with something like this kicking off, not distracted.
