One day, your home will be empty, and someone will have to decide what to do with your things. They'll open your drawers. They'll find the watch you treasured so much, the car you spent three years paying off, and the clothes you saved for special occasions because you didn't want to wear them out. And they'll make three piles: what to sell, what to give away, and what to throw away. None of it goes with you. Not a single thing. The only thing that goes with you is that afternoon you stayed talking for hours and didn't even realize where the time went. The look on your mom's face when you showed up to visit her without telling her you were coming. Don't collect things... Collect moments with the people you love
I spent two years being the low-maintenance girlfriend. I never complained when he canceled plans, never asked for fancy dates, played video games with his friends, and never demanded a title. I thought if I showed him how "easy" I was to love, he’d choose me. For my 25th birthday, he bought me a $10 gas station gift card and took me to a drive-thru. Two months later, we broke up. Within six months, he was engaged to a woman who had strict boundaries, demanded high effort, and wouldn't settle for crumbs. That was the day I realized: being the "cool girl" doesn't make a man value you it just makes it cheap for him to use you.
My take: they’re aiming for different versions of the same character. Ralph Fiennes leans into an older, haunted, emotionally worn Odysseus returning after years of war and exile. Matt Damon’s version (based on what we’ve seen so far) appears to emphasize the larger than life, adventurous hero at the center of Nolan’s sweeping interpretation. Comparing them is interesting, but they’re likely trying to achieve different things rather than compete head to head.
Being 10 years old and making your debut in epigenetic trauma research all because you noticed your caterpillars still loved you after becoming butterflies is so profound and poetic and impressive. I love children and their incredible hearts and minds!!!!!!
Her monologue here about it how she’s the one who has been holding shit down but would never be handed the throne cause she’s not a man and the Circe scene, yeah, don’t say he doesn’t have compelling women characters no more to me.
Chuds saying this was Nolan pushing the “anti men agenda” entirely missed the point of this scene. She’s not saying that there shouldn’t be a king. She’s saying it’s made her feel crazy that everyone claims the throne has been empty when she’s the one who has been on it running shit while Odysseus is away. It hasn’t been empty, but the suitors don’t see her as a capable ruler including her own son. She’s saying that she has been the one holding things down while waiting for her king to come back, and she’s willing to continue doing so because she believes he’s still out there.
The throne was never empty. Penelope WANTS Odysseus to come back. She isn’t against there being a king on the throne, she’s against there being anyone other than Odysseus on it.
Somewhere in your 20s or 30s you'll get the opportunity to rebuild your life after a negative loop, heal from what broke you, live in your own space, reconnect with your discipline, and learn to love yourself again. It's very important that you see that journey through.
I actually disagree. I think that’s our first real look at Freaky Nikki.
When Bear wakes up and sees her standing in the corner, she’s freaking out because her appearance is breaking down. She leaves the room to find something to hide it with, then comes back with the flower pot to cover the distortion until she “fixes” herself. Once she’s normal again, she makes up an excuse for bringing it in.
It’s a really clever use of props.
I used to buy those cheap sunglasses from the roadside all the time and always thought, "What's the point of buying expensive ones? I'm going to loose them anyway." Then one day, I gathered the courage and bought an expensive sunglasses. And guess what? I still have them. I've taken care of them ever since.
That's when I realized those cheap sunglasses weren't getting lost because they were cheap? They were getting lost because I didn't value them enough to care. It's hard to accept, but sometimes in someone else's story, you are that cheap pair of sunglasses.
