@sqs I really want to give Neo (looks great) a fair shot, having used CC and Codex, I feel like I’m missing something in the harness.
How much $$$ should I load up to spend enough time to learning how to use Amp and reasonably evaluate it?
@mattpocockuk@housecor I've used a ton of /grill-me and found it really useful, but /grill-me-with-docs feels a little too "your workflow coded." I think it's less useful for others unless they adopt your workflow (which admittedly is a good one for LLMs).
@Kristen20051@kr0der@RhysSullivan My prompt is similar to this except I also request that it not sacrifice readability by doing long one liners, the goal is reduced complexity, not line reduction at the cost of complexity
@mitchellh When am I going to read someone’s thread though? It’s extremely rare that I do something end to end with one thread. Probably 80% of the work is done doing the initial planning, then 10% during an implementation thread, then little 2% threads doing final polish and testing
@ThePrimeagen I check every guide, every cheat sheet, every plugin pack, every “sane defaults” config. All of them assume I already chose modal editing as a lifestyle.
What an amazing 20 minutes spent learning how to exit an editor.
@ThePrimeagen This is how you sound:
I took Vim for the ultimate test. I decided to edit my codebase with it. I took a lot of pride in this code, written with an ergonomic editor, modern conveniences, everything dialed in. It was mine and it was good.
@ThePrimeagen So I check StackOverflow, Reddit, and some arcane blog from 2009.
Tweet 7:
Every single source says the same thing: “Easy. Just ciw, then :%s/foo/bar/gc, then :wq, but don’t forget hjkl.”
Wtf.
@ThePrimeagen So I opened Vim and tried to make a tiny change. Cursor teleports like a haunted typewriter, I hit another key and delete half a function.
@geoffreylitt Not sure if you are self reporting anthropomorphizing so forgive me if so. Your framing of “an AI did the work” feels anthropomorphic. You wouldn’t say “my compiler did the work of converting this to machine code”
