📸 𝐏𝐈𝐂𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐋: Yesterday, @FitspaUG joined the @BOU_Official for the Bank of Uganda Supporting Payment Innovations (BOU-SPI) Demo Day, held at Mestil Hotel, Kampala.
The Demo Day brought together the Governor of the @BOU_Official, representatives from licensed financial institutions and payment service providers, regulators, innovation hubs, partners and other stakeholders across Uganda’s financial technology ecosystem.
At the centre of the event were five innovators who presented their payment solutions, showcasing innovations designed to address real gaps and emerging needs within Uganda’s digital payments landscape.
Giving remarks at the event, FITSPA Vice Chairperson Doreen Lukandwa appreciated the @BOU_Official for creating a platform that enables innovators to engage directly with licensed financial institutions and payment service providers that can provide infrastructure, market access, customer networks, technical expertise and potential investment.
She noted that Uganda has no shortage of innovative ideas. The bigger challenge is creating the capacity, structures, resources, market understanding and partnerships required to turn good ideas into viable and scalable payment solutions.
The Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Michael Atingi-Ego reinforced the importance of digital payments in expanding access to financial services and supporting Uganda’s economic transformation.
He emphasised that payment systems must be secure, efficient, affordable and interoperable, and that the journey must move from innovation, to adoption and ultimately to scale.
He also challenged innovators to remain focused on the real problems they are solving and the people and businesses they seek to serve. Technology alone is not enough. Solutions must create tangible value, operate responsibly, remain commercially viable and build trust.
As @FitspaUG, we are proud to have served as the Coordinator of the BOU-SPI Working Group and lead implementer of the initiative, working alongside the @BOU_Official, @TheInnovationVillage, @refactory_acad, @OutboxHub and Uganda Registration Services Bureau URSB.
We appreciate the Bank of Uganda, the BOU-SPI Working Group partners for their commitment, the innovation hubs and knowledge partners for supporting the innovators, and the licensed financial institutions and other stakeholders who continue to create pathways for collaboration.
As @FitspaUG, we look forward to seeing the conversations that began at the Demo Day translate into partnerships, testing, investment, adoption and ultimately scale.

I have learned that building something meaningful requires being willing to send the email.
This week, I invited Tony Elumelu, Joe Lonsdale, Mark Cuban, Alexis Ohanian, and several extraordinary investors and builders to speak at Ajim Summit.
Some will say no. Some may not reply. But I would rather build the room boldly than wonder what would have happened if I had asked.
@enews One has to pay for Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony and the star. It's a bit like buying a fancy sticker. And not every single famous person has one — some super cool stars are missing, while some lesser-known ones are there.

@Ugaman01 Building must have a different meaning these days. Did you code or write an API? Are follow trains considered building?
It’s about time we document the real OGs of internet and related platforms in Uganda.
Revence "Rev" Kalibwani (RIP) didn't code SMS features in late 2000s for Ugandans to tweet via SMS during 2009 Buganda riots just so that people like this could come and claim they "built Twitter in Uganda."
SMH. "Influencers" truly have main character syndrome.
