@brian_blase Larry's a smart man. He knows the difference between a tax deduction and a tax credit...he's simply banking on "the stupidity of the American voter" rules his buddy Jon Gruber and he believe in.
@brian_blase@kerpen@DominicJPino I understand your underlying point but painting this as a huge windfall to insurance companies simply can't be true with MLR rules. That being said, continuing ARPA enhanced subsidies simply makes costs worse.
Next year, in the absence of Biden's COVID credits, there will still be huge subsidies for Obamacare plans.
As the figure shows, most enrollees will have access to a fully subsidized bronze plan.
The delta between the dashed & solid lines is the enrollees' share of the premium.
@kerpen Uninsured increase is partially due to the CBO baseline numbers included anticipated enrollment from states that didn't take Medicaid expansion. Cuts the narrative of lost coverage in half.
@operationdanish The other component that is driving these costs is the elimination of any annual or lifetime maximums. Not only is their an incentive to grow larger it also gave an incentive to Pharma, Hospitals, and all other health care professionals to increase the costs of their services.
@kerpen The unintended (intentional) consequences of giving a blank check to those who provide care and putting a "cap" on health insurers. Both drive costs up not down. Why else would Pharma and the AMA have back Obamacare?
Judge for yourself, but do you think Dana was as tough with Kamala as with me? No, of course not.
But I don't care. I'm running to be the people's Vice President.
If you respect this country, you should go anywhere, talk to anyone, and make your pitch. The people deserve it.
Easy to manipulate and misstate when subsidy is based on income projection for the year. Especially coming out of a period of high Medicaid enrollment.
While true that costs of care have exploded, the #1 factor driving debt for those w/ cancer & other life threatening illnesses is loss of income. Protecting your wages is something few people do. Short & long term disability insurance can provide security for these situations.
Gwendolyn Jackson was financially sound before her cervical cancer diagnosis—she was gainfully employed, insured and secure in a home of her own. But now, she has tens of thousands of dollars of medical debt. https://t.co/cshr71fPVF https://t.co/cshr71fPVF
Reminder that the Sanders/Jayapal M4A bills are a joke. Empty skeleton bills that promise huge new benefits but lack:
1) Any new payment system to achieve all those promised efficiency savings (bill says TBD)
2) Any financing mechanism to pay the $32 trillion 10-year cost (oops!)
Estimated 12.5 million losing Medicaid.
