@AliceinDCland 1. candy on an easy run where you stop a few times is a vibe. 2. there are varying degrees of "make your own gel" that save a ton of $$, e.g. formula 369 is ~$0.50/30 carb serving. 5 scopes in an 8oz hydrapak is like $3. Buying bulk ingredients is even cheaper.
@ShauhinDavari I don’t think the issue was that it was a political statement. It was that, even if the motives were genuine, the political statement was clumsy, one sided, and delivered by a man with a history of dabbling in antisemitic tropes. That said, cancelling Macklemore was a bit extreme
@user_mm_ This reminds me of the saying “money doesn’t buy happiness, but people like to see for themselves”. The only ppl who don’t want to look like a Greek God are those that have been huge, lost a bunch of weight, and are ~universally happier and healthier. Myself included.
@xwanyex@AliceFromQueens I think a greater meta point could be that things like swimming pools and cars kill far more children than dogs. If you care about child welfare, you'd be on about the former. If you care about being correct on the internet, then you'd care about the latter.
@xwanyex 2 things going on. 1. Ppl love "being right" contrary to popular belief. 2. Ppl are really bad at quantifying small but material risk - if a roulette gave $100 for everything<36 and 36= you die, you obv wouldn't play that game! Combining these 2 makes ardent pit bull defenders
@xwanyex You can kind of square the circle by requiring folks to get some sort of "aggressive breed permit". Shelters would have to say "you can take home this Chihuahua today, but if you want the pitbull you need to get this permit."
@xwanyex I think you're conflating the opinions of hyper-online 19 y/o turbo libs on X w/ the actual policy goals of YIMBY chapters: making housing easier to build. It's a big tent movement. YIMBY Town typically features a few prominent Republicans as speakers.
@wanyeburkett It is also correct? Rates of homelessness are highly correlated to housing costs. The states with the lowest rates of homelessness actually have relatively high rates of drug use: MS, WV, LA.
@StatisticUrban Unless you live in an old home by the beach, the likelihood of your home being ruined by a hurricane is quite small. 20+ feet above sea level, you're not going to flood. New homes basically bomb proof.
@wanyeburkett I think a corollary of this phenomenon is that humans over(under) estimate the probability of optimal(bad) events, even when told they are doing so. Example: sports betting(smoking).
@wanyeburkett Many people would see his lived experience as indifferent from a 5th generation NYer, and a matter of demographic minutia. Thus, focusing on this fact is seen as similar to arguing that someone is unqualified on the basis of gender, race, etc.
@wanyeburkett I think where conflict arises, but ppl can't articulate is where they fall on the bell curve of "how long a person needs to live somewhere to run for office" Zohran has lived in NYC from the age of 7. I think you are pretty far toward one end of said bell curve.
