Sudbury Town station was built in 1932 when Johnston’s 1916 Underground typeface was under review. A new face was commissioned from Percy Delf Smith. The experiment failed, but Smith’s serif face remains in situ today. A no. of his original petit-serif drawings are at St Bride.
