False freedom: “Be true to you.”
Real freedom: “Be true to him.”
Teaching this to children is the most revolutionary thing a 21st-century parent can do.
What happens when we forget about Forever? Well, here’s just a short list:
- Our marriages struggle because we load the burden of our happiness onto the shoulders of a far-from-perfect spouse
- We put way too much pressure on our children to be successful and live as trophies to our identity
- We have a hard time getting along with family and friends, constantly surprised and disappointed when friends and brothers and sisters hurt us
- We spend more than we earn and find ourselves in crippling financial debt
- We stand in front of full closets and say we have nothing to wear
- We look into fully stocked refrigerators and say we have nothing to eat
- We struggle with envy
- Trials and suffering paralyze us more than they should
- We overmedicate, overeat, and numb ourselves with entertainment and sexual pleasure
“Solomon was seven years in building the house of the Lord. Solomon was building his own house thirteen years.” 1 Kings 6:38–7:1
The inspired writer pulls no punches.
When Mount Saint Helens erupted 46 years ago today, nothing survived that was within 230 square miles of the explosion.
Except for photographer Richard Lasher who escaped on his dirt bike after taking this shot.
@Ferndiggity We missed you! That is the only Billy Graham crusade that I've ever been to we went Saturday evening when Kirk Franklin and DC talk were the music guests. Your album, This Brght Hour, has long been one of my favorites!

It is not just incidental that Samwise is a gardener.
This choice communicates the nature of his relationship with the world: Sam seeks not to control the world he inhabits, but only to cultivate and steward it. To set the conditions for good things to flourish, then to step back and let them do so.
When Sam is tempted by Sauron's Ring, his prideful vision is that of a great garden enveloping Mordor:
"…at his command the vale of Gorgoroth became a garden of flowers and trees and brought forth fruit. He had only to put on the Ring and claim it for his own, and all this could be."
Sam counters this vision with his "hobbit-sense"…
"…he knew in the core of his heart that he was not large enough to bear such a burden, even if such visions were not a mere cheat to betray him. The one small garden of a free gardener was all his need and due, not a garden swollen to a realm; his own hands to use, not the hands of others to command."
Sam is able to keep his mind on the light beyond the shadow because he sees the world through the lens of a grateful participant. He is no power-seeker.
Even in his temptation, he is not really looking to control Mordor, but only to plant seeds in its barren earth.
Be like Sam.
It’s crazy that @NASA has been releasing such quality photos of the moon. And I don’t want to be *that* guy, but I’ve just noticed some things that I don’t think add up. Let me explain 👇🏼
Hello, Moon. It’s great to be back.
Here’s a taste of what the Artemis II astronauts photographed during their flight around the Moon. Check out more photos from the mission: https://t.co/rzM1P0QbOl
