BREAKING: NYS budget establishes first-in-the-nation Excluded Workers Fund!
This victory comes after one year of statewide organizing efforts from the #FundExcludedWorkers Coalition — led by impacted workers, culminating in two hunger strikes.
History is made today!
We have received an influx of donations we will have all of this money go towards support and funds to the victims' families and survivors. We are currently working with organizations in Georgia and are trying to contact survivors and families.
🚨VICTORY! THE #WALKINGWHILETRANS BAN HAS BEEN REPEALED🚨
For years trans communities organized, educated, and mobilize our people to end Stop & Frisk 2.0
Today, we celebrate this success & honor all the transcestors who were a part of this fight. ¡Sí se pudo!
MAJOR! The #WalkingWhileTrans ban is expected to be repealed this week when the votes in the NY Senate favor eliminating this discriminatory law!
Keep an eye on it, it’s been a long time coming!
Whatever the results, I’m proud that we got out the ajumma vote in GA! Here’s a photo from Election Day when we were poongmul drumming in front of a Super HMart w/ @AsianAAF
white folks always trying to exoticize / exceptionalize the other (in this case, Asian countries that have handled Covid well) to normalize their own cultural incompetence
This is exactly right. Countries with high cohesion, with strong sense of community and interpersonal ethical obligation, have managed Covid-19 well; Japan, S Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, other Confucian societies are all examples. One metric of cohesion is willingness to wear masks.
AsAm grifters hijacked a Save Chinatown event that was supposed to happen today at Washington Square Park. The organizer, an 18-year old student, asked China Mac and William Lex Ham, not to be there. They refused her wishes, talked shit on Instagram Live after she cancelled (1/n)
Asian Americans: we urgently need to recognize “the crude Orientalism of the ‘Chinese virus’ and the endemic antiblackness of our carceral institutions as complementary, constitutive elements of global white supremacy.” ty @mnj_b & @tsengputterman! https://t.co/bPpGHisN7Y
if a white person says they can't speak honestly for fear of being called out, that's proof they haven't put in the work - of building trustful relationships with QT/BIPOC folx; of finding a political home that will call them in when they mess up, as @MaudMaron seems intent to do
white people often love to conflate fairness & balance. they pretend that fairness is everyone getting equal, balanced airtime to vent about their "valid concerns" - when in fact it's just a pre-emptive defense against being called out / for when they expound racist beliefs
"When people say I'm nervous that (integration) is going to result in my kid getting a less good education, you have to take that concern as a valid concern -- even if you think it's racist, and it may be." @MaudMaron to @nhannahjones
We are rallying to pass 5 bills that would end death-by-incarceration sentences, the torture of solitary confinement, the criminalization of trans people just walking down the street, and ICE targeting undocumented people in courts. Let's go!!! #QTPOC#WalkingWhileTrans
@866OURVOTE I received an absentee ballot but it only had the presidential race on it. No state or local contests. I received it on June 22 (the postmark deadline), and so I sent in the partial ballot to at least have that count. Is there any way to remedy this?
“We shouldn’t be screaming, ‘Trans Lives Matter,’ but we have to...We shouldn’t have to be screaming, ‘Black Lives Matter,’ but here we are. With what we’re dealing with in the world, we have to.“ - Leiomy Maldonado, ballroom icon, via @SydneyBaloue https://t.co/cVJrB5uydF
"What would the country look like if it had billions of extra dollars to spend on housing, food and education for all? This change in society wouldn’t happen immediately, but the protests show that many people are ready to embrace a different vision of safety and justice.”
Over the past week, I've had multiple conversations with folx who support Black Lives Matter, but who don't support abolishing U.S. imperialism in its many, entrenched forms.
"People like me who want to abolish prisons and police, however, have a vision of a different society, built on cooperation instead of individualism, on mutual aid instead of self-preservation."
