Previous presidents followed those norms. No one thought to use the mail as a partisan weapon. The laws & norms around mail are poorly known, bc no one ever thought to try this gambit before.

But now, bc Trump insists on politicizing the bureaucracy, this whole thing will go to court just months before the election. Some Trumpist judge will say maybe there’s something to this. Then, we’ll be forced to have a big national debate about mail service which no one wants to have or knows anything about.

It probably will fail, but only after a long, unnecessary debate over a cheap trick no other president would pull. It will waste lots of national energy which should go into more pressing issues. And it demonstrates, again, that MAGA refuses to accept the nonpartisan rules and norms which bound and limit US political conflict and so make it easier for partisans to get along with each other
