Kigali 2026: Official Press Release Now Out!
Our journey toward the Africa Water & Sanitation Systems Leadership Symposium 2026 continues to build momentum and we’re pleased to share that our official press release is now live across multiple media outlets.
The announcement features powerful insights from Rwanda’s Minister of Infrastructure and the President of @amcowafrica , underscoring why Kigali 2026 will be a landmark moment for Africa’s water and sanitation systems transformation.
@Dr_JimmyGasore , Minister of Infrastructure, Rwanda:
“Africa’s water challenge is no longer about identifying solutions, it is about leadership and institutional credibility. Rwanda is honoured to host a platform that advances reforms needed to make public services work and positions water and sanitation as strategic investments for economic transformation and social equity.”
Dr. @cheikhtdieye , @amcowafrica President:
“As co-organiser, AMCOW welcomes Kigali 2026 as a platform to bring together African political, technical and financial leaders around a clear goal: to ensure water security and safe sanitation on a large scale. This symposium strengthens continental coordination and Africa's collective responsibility to transform Agenda 2063 into measurable progress for our citizens.”
Hosted by the @RwandaGov , co‑convened by AMCOW, and facilitated by @ircafrica , the Symposium will convene 1,000+ leaders from 17–21 August 2026 to accelerate reform and investment through four transformation dialogues:
✅ Leadership
✅ Regulation & accountability
✅ Professionalization of providers

Why Kigali?
@CityofKigali represents what is possible when political leadership, institutional discipline, and long-term vision come together.
Rwanda has demonstrated that reform in public institutions, service delivery, and accountability is not theoretical - it is achievable with sustained leadership and clear responsibility.
Hosting the Africa Water & Sanitation Systems Leadership Symposium 2026 in Kigali is therefore intentional.
It anchors the Symposium in a context where systems thinking, reform implementation, and delivery culture are taken seriously.
Kigali is not a backdrop.
It is a signal - that Africa’s water future will be shaped by leadership that delivers.

Happy International Women’s Day to all the amazing women out there! Today we celebrate the countless ways you inspire, uplift, and make a difference in the lives of those around you. May you continue to shine, love, and celebrate yourselves today and always. ✨💜
Yesterday felt different.
@ywprwanda led a session on Green Job Creation & Youth Engagement during the Forum on Urban and Peri-Urban Nature-Based Solutions.
We explored how NbS are more than just restoring ecosystems, they create jobs, build skills, and open doors for youth.
Happy #HeroesDay, 🇷🇼
Today, we honor our national heroes, whose bravery, dedication, and sacrifice have shaped our nation. Their legacy continues to inspire unity and progress for Rwanda’s development.

Once badly damaged after years as an industrial area, Gikondo Wetland is now being restored. It helps absorb rainwater, reduce flooding, filter runoff, and create green space for Kigali residents and wildlife, acting as a natural buffer against flood losses.
Happy International Wetlands Day! 🌿
Today we joined the national celebration at Gikondo Wetland, where 1,450 trees were planted through umuganda to support this wetland’s restoration.
This morning, @ywprwanda joined a special Umuganda at Rugenge–Rwintare Wetland, where we planted trees and cleaned up plastics to help preserve it. This wetland is one of five in Kigali being rehabilitated to improve biodiversity, water quality, and flood resilience.
