Like Chamath, these people want the switch to SpaceX, but without paying the pesky Capital Gains Tax that us normal folks have to pay when we sell shares that have appreciated since we bought them. So they want a free swap from Tesla straight into SpaceX, hence the push for a merger, which would avoid any CGT, as they won’t have to sell their shares in the transaction.
@M44_1RJ Tesla shareholders should take $382 (current market price) just to get in on SpaceX while avoiding any capital gains tax on the switchover from Tesla to SpaceX. If they were smart. Holding out will just mean no deal, and then they get left behind while SpaceX soars out of reach.
So if that's what you believe, sell now and put it in SpaceX. You are free to enjoy the SpaceX growth along with Elon. So at this point in time, you can choose to own SpaceX or Tesla and enjoy the growth of whichever one you believe has the most upside. Elon is not preventing that in any way.
@aaronburnett@is_OwenLewis Respond casually to an interesting post from Aaron, come back to an army of India based accounts losing their collective minds at any hint of criticism directed at their billionaires. 🤷♂️ Looking for imagined slights everywhere. As I said, quite illuminating to behold.
@SawyerMerritt Ultimately it needs to be manufactured on Mars anyway. No way to have a self sustaining technological civilization on Mars without the ability to manufacture chips. So it was always on his critical path to multiplanetary civilization anyway.
I love it, but a fundamental flaw is the resource maxing dependency, where whoever gains even a small resource advantage early on keeps compounding that and it becomes incredibly difficult to achieve any form of a come from behind victory. They need to introduce some way to allow strategic superiority to outweigh pure resource dominance, at least to a greater extent than it does at the moment.
I personally believe it’s mainly grassroots Indian Nationalism being exploited by the fat-cat oligarchs and their pet politicians to keep out the competition. Not to forget that the ISRO sees itself as somewhat of a competitor to SpaceX, and I wonder if the anti-Starlink sentiment might be part of a broader push to establish India’s own relevance in the international space sector.
Having their own Indian LEO broadband network for “national security” reasons would provide the ISRO with the high volume launch customer base they could only dream of in a world where F9 and now Starship would otherwise steal every commercial launch on a cost competitive basis.
@DrPhiltill@JeffBezos My goal is to break Usain Bolt’s 100m world record. So far I can do a 5km park run in 30 minutes. Some might say I’m crazy, but that’s just the haters, who I have learned to ignore.
How on earth is Blue Origin valued at almost 10% of SpaceX’s market cap? I mean, 11,000 satelites vs zero. 160 annual launches vs 2. Fully reusable Starship vs whatever New Glenn is.
And most importantly, Elon “build a Colossus datacenter in 100 days” vs Jeff “take 20 years to get to orbit” as leaders.
If Blue is worth $170B then SpaceX is already worth $10T.
@LimitingThe@bradsferguson What if the AI gains consciousness? Then we have a moral duty to it perhaps similar to any other conscious being. It is not fear, but morality that should guide us.
@Forbes So are we now lined up for about 100 of these Forbes articles per year as Elon’s net worth keeps crossing up and down through the trillionaire threshold?
Construction cost isn’t going down, in fact it’s increasing with inflation, so that creates a price floor. Once prices drop below thr equivalent new build cost, no one will build new homes, as existing homes are cheaper and then the construction industry collapses and the economy crashes. Government can’t allow that, so can’t keep raising interest rates.
@SciGuySpace@MAGAtakes $1000/kg New Glenn internal launch cost vs $100/kg for Starship. That’s all you need in order to calculate the viability of the competing business model they will be offering.
