@ThePrimeagen - Token use is number of quarters spent on the claw machine at the arcade.
- LoC is how many stuffed animals you've won.
- Product is how many stuffed animals it takes to feed a family of four.
@bunjavascript@htmx_org can always count on htmx to bring that 'proto mole-rat coming out of its hole after the asteroid to snack on decaying t-rex corpses' energy.
@kiaran_ritchie@dhh this is exactly it. people who want static types are the ones who spend most of their time as newcomers into large codebases.
who then don't ask themselves the hard question: why are they doing that, instead of making new things themselves?
dig into that, and you'll understand
@ChShersh the problem with static type systems cast as some panacea it that people don't realize the propositional satisfiability problem is the definitional case for NP-completeness.
@nilay_savant@ThePrimeagen oh I'm not dying on that hill, I'm living on that hill surrounded by the bodies of static typing zealots that never ship anything original but are convinced of their importance b/c of all the stuff they've 'fixed' that was built by people not following their rules.
@nilay_savant@ThePrimeagen "much faster because of it" you're gonna need more evidence for that claim; the diff in outage time here b/t bad rust code & people screwing up unix cli calls is essentially nil.
rust is just one part of a terrible trend in software, static 'safety' breeding runtime complacence.
@nilay_savant@ThePrimeagen is it exploding in their face, though?
by contrast, rust rewrites are exploding in people's faces (look at several major outages over the past few months)
@rfleury@ThePrimeagen periodic reminder that minecraft started as a clone of Zach Barth's Infiniminer. not to say it wasn't original, notch added tree punching after all. Zach would've never come up with something that... uh... accessible?
@rywalker or you can build your stack on high quality code like nubank, adapt to new markets faster, and have a 20x lower than industry average per-customer cost to serve. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
why in such a hurry? you'd rather be netscape, friendster, palm pilot or blackberry?
Did my best to give the weirdest possible talk on software for cancer informatics. Featuring:
