After millions of views spreading lies about the Palisades firefighters lacking water because of regulations, the boring truth comes late like usual and wont be shared. Here it is:

1 - Reservoirs and water tanks were at normal levels and completely full before the fire.

2 - All 114 city water supply tanks were fully stocked pre-fire.

3 - A 15-hour surge at four times normal demand reduced water pressure.

4 - High demand at lower elevations slowed refilling tanks at higher elevations.

5 - This unprecedented fire was fueled by 8 months of no rain and 85 MPH winds. Water is being brought in continuously.

6 - Even if, like Trump claimed, the protection of the Delta Smelt caused over regulation by California, it's the FEDERAL Endangered Species Act that requires the protection of endangered species like the Delta Smelt and their habitats, not Gavin Newsom or California.

When I was in grade school, our teacher had a mock election in our class and I was so proud to vote for Jimmy Carter. He embodied so many of the qualities I hold dear – service, leadership, discipline, grace, kindness, and living your faith more than speaking your faith. But perhaps the value he epitomized most to me was radical love.

One of the greatest road trips of my life was about 5 years ago, driving from Atlanta to Plains, Georgia, with John Lewis to visit with President Carter and Rosalynn and hear President Carter teach Sunday school to people from all over the world from all different faiths.

I recounted my grade school vote, and how his lifelong legacy had influenced me throughout my career. As always, he accepted it with humility and humor, and then, as if thinking about my coming year or two, encouraged me to run for president "ONLY" he said, "if you run from here" and then he poked gently at my chest, at my heart.

Thank you President Carter for a lifetime of inspiration, and a lifetime of service – and leading with love. May you rest in peace.

On 7/24/15, former President Jimmy Carter spoke w/students at @UChiPolitics. Refusing a chair, Mr. Carter, at 90, stood & gave a riveting, off-the-cuff talk, followed by Q & A. Despite pleas from staff, he stayed after to mingle. Days later, he announced he had brain cancer.

May God rest the soul of this good and decent man who lived a long and impactful life entirely dedicated to others. Jimmy Carter represented the heart of this country and left a legacy of wisdom and kindness that lasted many years beyond his presidency. My hero Jimmy Carter was a peacemaker, a public servant, a man of faith, a devoted partner to Rosalynn—and a Guinea worm’s worst nightmare. I knew him best as a global health advocate and deeply admired his dedication to taking on diseases that impact the world’s poorest people, like Guinea worm disease.

When President Carter left office, there were more than 3.5 million cases of this painful, debilitating disease around the world each year. This year, thanks in no small part to the work of the Carter Center, that number was down to single digits. He dreamed of outliving the last Guinea worm—and came incredibly close.

As he traveled around the world meeting with heads of state, monitoring elections, visiting clinics, and building homes, he took time to connect to the people he met. He believed in removing the barriers that separated a man like him—a former President and Nobel Prize winner—from people living with the realities of poverty and disease.

One of my favorite teachings says: “To know that even one life has breathed easier because you lived, this is to have succeeded.” We honor President Carter by remembering that because of him, life is healthier, better, and safer not just for one life, but for millions.
