7 YEARS AGO: Dr Rachid Abbasi is arrested for refusing to leave the bedside of his critically ill daughter

Six-year-old Zainab was suffering from rare life-limiting condition called Niemann-Pick Disease.

In addition to this, after contracted swine flu at the age of two, she also suffered from serious respiratory problems, which required treatment.

After doctors announced her life-saving treatment would be withdrawn without the family’s consent, Rachid refused to leave Zainab's side.

The hospital staff then got him arrested, which led to him suffering a heart attack right outside the room where his little daughter was fighting for her life.

Zainab tragically died four weeks later.

With support from Christian Concern and the Christian Legal Centre, the Abbasis challenged extremely broad reporting restrictions that prevented them from sharing their stories in full.

After winning their case at the Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court gave a landmark ruling in their favour on 16 April 2025.

Gahama Jean’s family and friends carry his body away from Oupaî village in the Far North of #Cameroon. He was killed when Boko Haram militants stormed the community. They looted the village, stealing crops, clothing and valuables. Gahama was going to work on his farm when the extremist group killed him. All 300 members of the village have now fled.

Gahama’s family wanted to share the video to raise awareness of the terror faced by countless Christian communities in Cameroon and across sub-Saharan Africa – and to remember their much-loved son and brother.

Please pray for Gahama’s family to be comforted and for all the displaced villagers to heal from their trauma. May God’s presence be their refuge and fortress.

“Thank you for bringing light back to my life,” says a mother in Benue State, Nigeria.

“It was a terrible day for us,” recalls 'Badoo'. Ambushed by radicalised Fulani militants, Badoo (who was pregnant at the time), her husband and five children fled in the dark of the night with nothing but the clothes on their back. “They killed my mother-in-law and three of my brothers-in-law”, she says.

The family fled to a displacement camp but, like so many in the region, it’s dangerously ill-equipped to care for people. Badoo gave birth there. With six children to feed and no income, the family’s future looked bleak – until you stepped in.

Through local partners, she enrolled in a six-month vocational training covering fashion design, catering and leather works. In total, 250 families in Benue State have been given this livelihood support.

“I’m a different person now, because of the help that you gave,” says Badoo. “I can sew and earn money. I have used it to rent an apartment and I can send my children back to school. May God bless you abundantly for bringing help to the poor and displaced. The help gives us new life. I can’t thank you enough.”

An unhelpful headline. First birth sex is sex - sex is binary and immutable. Second - single sex toilets were always the law. Some activists pushed their agenda and caused confusion. The courts and updated guidance reflect what the law has always been. Any toilets that ‘change’ are because operators misunderstood the law.

Westminster has built a country where we spend more money on the planning paperwork for a single road than it costs other nations to build an entire mountain tunnel.

This isn't a system accidentally strangled by red tape: it is a highly lucrative industry. A vast priesthood of consultants and lawyers is making a fortune they have no interest in the work being done.

It is corruption by bureaucracy, and working-class communities are footing the bill for projects that never even see a spade in the ground.

The absolute paralysis of modern Britain was laid bare in a recent parliamentary committee. A single witness gave them the truth with both barrels, exposing the administrative vampires sucking public money dry while the work goes undone. The details are an insult to every community waiting for homes, decent transport, and cheaper energy.

Take the Lower Thames Crossing. The planning application alone has swallowed more than a quarter of a billion pounds. For that exact same amount, Norway actually constructed the world’s longest road tunnel. We spent it on paper, and we have not even turned a sod of earth.

This is a permission state eating itself alive.

Look at HS2, the most expensive railway line on earth. Part of the reason it cost so much is that we are spending £121 million on a specific "bat tunnel" to protect a few hundred bats living in a nearby wood, a wood the line does not even pass through.

Look at Hinkley Point C, the most expensive nuclear power station in human history. For eight years, developers locked in a multi-million-pound wrangle with regulators over installing an underwater "fish disco", an acoustic deterrent to stop fish swimming into the pipes. 20 years ago, we built nuclear fleets at a fraction of the cost. Today, we sacrifice national infrastructure to the gods of endless compliance.

The final absurdity is the plan to reopen just 3.3 miles of an existing railway line between Bristol and Portishead, a route already built but closed during the Beeching cuts. The planning application is 80,000 pages long. Over one thousand of those pages are about bats.

We have created a system that trades in paper while the real economy rots. The working class pay the price for this institutional cowardice. They pay for it in soaring energy bills, missing homes, broken transport links, and a country that cannot build the future it keeps promising.

Protecting the environment is vital, but drowning ourselves in paper is not environmentalism. A system that takes 80,000 pages to clear three miles of existing track is broken. It is not governance: it is managed decline with a clipboard.

It's the bureaucratic vampires drinking the country's wealth...
