@IamTravisNelson Not a good look, Tennessee. Sheeesh. OTOH I’m thrilled to see students walking out of school across the country over gun violence. They’ll learn more doing that than sitting in history class, especially in states that don’t teach real history!
@Andrea_Bryson @Boenau Hard question. My taxes support the hallucinations of the state Highway department, sports stadiums for teams I don’t even know what sport they play, tax subsidies for billionaires… you’re in a relatively blessed position, supporting education for future generations. Trade-offs.
Tower Bridge in London opened in 1894. It was closed for repairs twice, and also when it took two bomb hits during WW II. It now carries 40,000 people a day. It has a low speed limit but it was built for walkers and horses. Age is one justification for CBR. Hm. #nomorefreeways
You can have cars and have an okay quality of life. You can also have cancer and have an okay quality of life. But better not to have cancer. Just sayin’. @PBOTinfo@nomorefreeways
@maccoinnich Amsterdam is close to having one small grocery store on every block, often one of the Albert Heijn chain. Why? They want their city to be pleasant, and that means walkable. There are dozens of policy decisions that go into making that a reality. It takes political will.
@IamTravisNelson Thanks Rep. Nelson for asking the question. When they started congestion pricing in London, they had to revise the Bus schedules, since they covered their routes so much faster. Our policies favor cars cars cars. Until we stop the madness, we can’t have good mass transit.
@IamTravisNelson Thanks for all you do and stand for. One more thing: please be a champion for stopping the destruction of Portland’s remaining charm and livability by ODOT. Stop I5 widening.
I've been critical of the ACAB mind set, and then I see the Memphis videos, and wonder what sort of organization lets armed employees go out on the streets and torture people. Thanks for the video cameras - how often does this happen without being filmed?
@sdbunting I was in a similar situation six years ago. One hip was fine and the other was a train wreck. I had my right socket, replaced, and had a poster-child recovery. My hip went from being the worst part of my body to being the best: no pain, works perfectly, healed quickly. Note:YMMV
@Jonathan_Maus @everyotherjdw Schnitzer doesn’t even try to do that: “There’s no community in this country that we look at and admire from a real estate standpoint that doesn’t have a vital downtown.” (I stopped watching at that point - apologies if I did him an injustice).
@Jonathan_Maus @everyotherjdw we all look at houselessness primarily from one of two points of view: the human-suffering problem, and the business-suffering problem. A lot of super rich people, like wheeler, manage to include human suffering in their public discourse. /1
As I ease away from Twitter, I have opened a Mastodon account. I am now reachable (am I? Not 100% sure) and followable at @[email protected]. I chose a music related instance but I can still follow politics, urbanism, tech and family.
Come see me!
@nomorefreeways I’m trying to get my head around this. You want to relocate a cherished middle school to heal the damage done to Albina neighborhood. It’s not going clunk for me.
2022-2023 Supplemental EA Public Comment Record https://t.co/hZJ4lo02O4. ODOT must wonder what happened. “Back in the 60’s, we built highways all over the place, and everybody loved us. What went wrong?” Conduct a real objective EIS and find out!
