We get triggered.
It feels like a personal attack.
Past trauma coming back to life.
Our greatest fears materializing before us.
We have a choice:
1) Short-term compassion
• Defend, avoid, justify
2) Long-term compassion
• Observe, love, choose
@togetherandapa1@newstart_2024 How do you think lessons are learned, and then become taught? From mistakes
You’ve also made mistakes before. Some you are probably deeply ashamed of.
Do you believe you are not credible to share, advise, or help anyone learn from your mistakes?
@readswithravi Both examples are consistent.
1: consistent performance
2: consistent participation
Depends on the goal, but there is a difference between doing our best, & doing what’s required
Reframing failure has become an emotional coping mechanism because we moralize failure
@AfsaRosette The ultimate pressure test of their practice and ability is to confront them aggressively with blame & fear without a desire to understand
We’re not scared of the truth.
We’re scared of what it might mean about us.
That we’re selfish. Weak. Fake. Not enough.
So we lie to survive the moment, then spend years managing the fallout.
We don’t find the truth in what people say.
We find it in what they won’t say.
In what they avoid, dismiss, deflect.
The shape of someone’s truth reveals itself
in the silhouette.
Lying isn’t wrong. It’s just fear.
Fear of what the truth might expose.
So we perform. Reframe. Edit.
Not to deceive—just to cope.
But lies need upkeep.
They drain us.
Until we’re not living anymore,
just maintaining the cover.
@TylerAlterman Look in the mirror - our judgments of others are filtered by how we view ourselves
How we expect things to go
How we believe things are
How we react to pressure
How we feel about our ability to survive a threat to us
Judgment always starts from within - so tldr; self mastery
@su_dreams Equanimity - you are whoever you choose to be, whenever you choose to be it, until you choose otherwise
You are all of it, and also none of it
The art, the artist, and the observer of the art 💛
If you’d like to get rich or stay rich, I’d encourage you to develop the ability to change your mind.
Most ideas are shitty. So staying fixated on shitty ideas creates an anchoring bias that will weigh you down to the mediocrity of the masses. Learn to change your mind and skate to where the puck is going to be.
Others who can’t change their minds will constantly remind you of a former opinion. Ignore them. They want you to be down there with them so they can feel better about themselves. Don’t fall for it!
@NikHuno What are you trying to protect that has lie to yourself in the first place?
IMO, this saying exists because we show up every day regardless. It's about our context when we do
A better question may be, 'who is showing up today? (which version of us, & why have we chosen that?)
It's upsetting when we get exposed because our fears, vulnerabilities, & insecurities are thrust into the light
We can no longer hide, protect, or deny their existence
It's our default reactions that give us away
That's why people practice poker face — to camouflage the truth
The problem with lying, is that it works
The problem with lying, is that it also doesn't work
Lying is a useful tool — for surviving threats
But it's not without consequences or cost
The issue is that we usually don't like the cost when it catches up with us
It’s interesting that we lie, get caught, then get angry with the person who holds us accountable / revealed the lie
This is the behavior of a child who is afraid to get into trouble, not a mature adult who feels capable and confident to face life fully
Be sure not to mistake your cynicism with realism or pragmatism
We can be quick to talk, think, & behave our way out of possibilities & opportunities
Avoiding risk & reward, but calling it wisdom
'Luck' favors those who show up & put in the effort despite the odds
