@_PeterRyan@compactmag Clarification: I think it's an error to state / imply that the P2P Foundation is where Satoshi "announced" the original whitepaper. It was certainly released to P2P Foundation, but I think that was weeks after it was originally announced. Is that correct?
@ClimateBen Agreed Ben!
As @JohnRalstonSaul might say, the root cause is that the "free press" has had its meaning inverted / been co-opted.
Your link to the Herman / Chomsky piece highlights many of the underlying powers of inversion:

Remember:
1. The end of the world is being televised, just not in a way which allows people to understand it.
2. It appears in the newspapers too, but it's no clearer there.
3. Herman/Chomsky provide clarity. Don't freak out about the word 'propaganda'.

@RichDecibels I'm consciously aware that some of my behaviours (e.g. some social posts) are triggered by a need to counter-balance with alternatives the social permission / social amplification of views expressed by others
Pondering is it's *anti*-socially permissioned, or internally gen'd?
@TheRonBaumann An oldie, but a saddie ...
and sadly, not limited to just the general public: I'm having @rickmercer flashbacks ... :

@huseyinkishi @manjusrii It's a weird defence of generally terribly made kitch "stuff"
Typically a green 'n yellow themed assortment of plastic hats, plastic over-sized sunglasses, plastic disposable cups and plates, etc.
All made offshore, mostly non-recyclable
I fail to see any relevance.
Self-discipline is actually self-domination
i.e. you privilege one of your internal stakeholders at the expense of all the others
Inevitably your psyche generates a coup. The parts you bullied vie for power and disrupt your life
@PaulQuixotic@chriswaterguy Agree with your comments @PaulQuixotic.
If you consider the Lutherian protestant "christian" work ethic of 16th century, "work" was how entrance to heaven was achieved.
In some ways, todays obsession with GTD, "busyness", and "goals" is the modern western "work ethic"
@chriswaterguy I concur on embodied cognition and / or ingrained social-interaction norms
It quite rapidly move from funny to awkward (I think we collectively lasted < a minute) before we ended the ordeal
@chriswaterguy Agreed
Not to trivialise / demean: I've a fond memory of good-naturedly teasing a Spanish colleague with the challenge to express how he felt about a topic that clearly mattered to him without moving his hands / arms
A little surprisingly for both of us he was lost for words
@WillScuderi OK. What am I missing ?
Over the past 4 years, I've run multiple external, lightweight, USB / Mini HDMI connected multi-point capactive touch 11 - 15" screens. They've become widely available from numerous vendors and the price has dropped quite low.
So ... what's the hype?
@testertested Sadly, that's not really a new problem @testertested: writing clear, unambiguous requirements for software has always been challenging.
For me, it's disappointing to see how those problems continue to persist.
@ClimateBen I suspect that's most likely @skdh's ironic, sarcastic humour.
Because, really, anyone claiming that it's possible to understand capitalism is either joking, lying or deluded.
@RichDecibels Many parents of teens will recognise this pattern: often easier to check in on well being while side-by-side driving / walking somewhere, than a face-to-face inquiry over dinner / at the home doorway.
@toyasingh@RichDecibels Zoom's "Immersive View" showed promise at offering a way to approach to this, though based on my own experience, I didn't find the feature compelling enough to use regularly.
@teh_aimee The principles of liberal Western economic systems gamify those systems to encourage outcomes - both intentionally by design, and unintentionally through poor design
I agree the design also provides opportunities to game the system, thou my points were about inherent outcomes
@teh_aimee The "Pharma Bro" Martin Shkreli's, Dick Sadlers, etc of this world are the most visible of the broad reaching metastatic cancer in a system that has been increasingly rendered unable to withstand the ongoing assault
The sad thing is it's business-as-usual for shareholders profit
