This is a picture of Olumide Abiodun Oworu, the Nollywood actor who contested against Desmond Elliot under the Labour Party for the Surulere Constituency seat during the 2023 elections.
At the time, Olumide was reportedly brutalized simply for daring to challenge the political establishment. The tweet below speaks for itself.
During that election period, Desmond Elliot appeared comfortable benefiting from the atmosphere of intimidation, thuggery, and suppression that surrounded the process. Reports of harassment, violence, and attempts to silence opposition candidates became widespread, and Olumide was among those affected.
Today, Desmond Elliot is complaining about intimidation and the withdrawal of his security details.
Ironically, he is now facing the same political culture that was once used against others while he remained a beneficiary of the system.
Desmond Elliot rose politically through the backing of Femi Gbajabiamila and the APC political structure in Lagos. The same machinery that worked against Labour Party candidates like Olumide now appears to be turning against one of its own.
If he is now being pressured for refusing to step down, then he is experiencing firsthand what many opposition figures have endured for years.
So with all due respect, this is not the time to call on the public for sympathy.
