NEW: As support pours in from several parties for what’s been dubbed the “largest mobilization” of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in decades, one party is conspicuously absent.
What is going on inside the Conservative Party?
Here’s what we know:
Today in Canada we saw the conviction of a terrorist who murdered, in cold blood, a Muslim family, leaving only their 9 year old son as a survivor.
We are also seeing the airing of openly antisemitic tropes by prominent racist figures on this platform and elsewhere, as well as attacks on Jewish-owned businesses and places of worship.
These are alarming times for those of us who believe in the promise of a free and liberal society to deliver prosperity and safe and secure life for all citizens. I have not seen my Jewish and Muslim friends more scared for their future in some time.
I think the only sane and rational response is to double-down on the principles that are at the foundations of our society, most specifically human rights, minority protections, and the rule of law. These are principles refined over centuries, and though the Western world reached them first (and can sometimes cynically wield them self-servingly and hypocritically), they are an inheritance from the Enlightenment that belongs to all of humanity; from the Magna Carta to the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, from the Iroquois Great Law of Peace, to the Geneva Conventions to the works of Ibn Khaldun, Locke and Rousseau.
It's hard for our leaders to navigate issues overseas that arise intense passions in diaspora communities, but approaching these issues from the perspective of, and reinforcing, our fundamental values and rights is the right approach. We will not all agree on everything, but at least we can respect each other, respect our common and shared heritage, live together, and build a better society together.
Yesterday, this government took advantage of the chaos they caused in our school system to quietly announce their plans to develop on the Greenbelt. In 2018, Doug Ford promised to protect it. He lied to the people of Ontario.
Many people have asked how they can help in the aftermath of the white supremacist anti-Black terrorist attack today in Buffalo. Please check out this 🧵for organizations and people to donate to. Will add more as I learn about more.👇🏿

I believe our leaders have a responsibility to #EndThePandemic in 2022. Join the Global Week of Action to tackle the gross vaccine inequality that's leaving billions of people in low income countries behind and fuelling #COVID19. https://t.co/YnfbRsOV19
Kids are back in school Monday and Ontario is still without a safe and sustainable in-person learning plan. The stakes are too high for this gamble. Send a message to Ford and Lecce now: https://t.co/uqgS8KELCC #Onpoli
PEOPLE OF ONTARIO: Your Chief Medical Officer of Health.
Unaware of the death of a child due to COVID…
But HIGHLY aware of the blanket return to school letter by a group of fringe Ontario physicians.
The Ford government is cancelling required reporting of COVID cases in schools & daycare.
And they snuck this thru in a memo issued on NYE.
Accountability? Transparency? Not in Doug Ford Ontario.

Read the book, though!📖🙂
