One year ago today, I shared the tweet quoted below.

I left it there because sometime around October 11-12, after the initial shock of the Hamas massacre had worn off, I felt a deep dread that I had understood something truly horrible about its architect Yahya Sinwar.

When I wrote the tweet, Israel was still 11 days away from its invasion of Gaza. It hadn’t started.

What I thought I had realized was that Sinwar was a genius who was innovating at a totally diabolical level.

In effect, he had gone well beyond the suicide bomber. The point of co-locating your military and terror installations around schools, mosques, hospitals, residences, etc., is to use a so-called "Human Shield Strategy" to make it impossible for your enemy to hit your military infrastructure without harming civilians. This discourages military action.

But the purpose of the tunnels was closer to a "Crosshair Targeting System"...for which there is no name. The purpose was to use terror targets to guide the Israeli enemy's military force *towards* whatever would produce the most potent video. Sinwar was literally going to get his enemy to kill his own civilians in the most spectacular fashion possible. On video.

From an "Eye for an Eye" to "Land for Peace" the world of war has always been transactional. But this was a new trade: "Lives for Video".

Because what Sinwar saw is that if he used attrocities and hostages in tunnels, Israel would have no choice. It would have to kill his civilians. And in this war, the most potent weapon is neither planes, nor rockets, nor helicopters nor tanks.

It's video.

In the graphic below, you can see that no one was talking about "Suicide by Cop" before 1992. It was a mysterious concept. Why would anyone pull a toy gun on an officer or appear to threaten civilians when they would obligate a police officer to use deadly force?

Eventually the idea of "Police-Assisted Suicide" dawned on people. It initially seemed too crazy to contemplate. But it works.

I know very few young people read old Sherlock Holmes stories any more. But one reason we did was to learn how much creativity a diabolical mind can posses. I highly recommend "The Problem of Thor Bridge" from what I can recall of it.

In this remarkable story, the villain uses suicide as a tool, to frame her victim for murder. To the best of my knowledge, this story has not been connected to what has unfolded over the last tragic year. Please have a read. You will see it immediately.

I believe that Sinwar knew that he himself was commiting suicide. Such is in the nature of the region. This is not uncommon. But what he wanted was to force an artifical "Genocide".

What is thus unusual is the level of ruthlessness, genius and innovation in a world already hungry to blame his enemy:

Zugzwang.
Munchausen by Proxy.
Thor Bridge.
IDF assisted Suicide.

People say the Israeli Pager/WalkieTalkie attacks which forced Nasrallah to meet with his leaders in person were brilliant.

Perhaps. But I still think that Sinwar is even smarter. Consider after all just who he outsmarted. Genius.

One must give this devil his due.

Read the quoted tweet again a year later and tell me what you think. I think that all this was forseeable from before Israel ever crossed into Gaza. We just didn't have language for it. Just as in the graph below.
