If you can understand Japanese, or are in the process of learning how to do so, and you are also interested in anthropology/linguistics/archaeogenetics/prehistory, then I can highly recommend this channel. Videos have both good sources and good explanations for various topics.
@Miyhnea Reading proper academic papers is an underrated form of recreation, there are many good academic writers and topics out there. The more obscure/niche/esoteric, the better.
@we_drive_east It's because the movie Seediq Bale never released on Netflix and Western cinemas. The only reason why I wrote the original tweet in this thread in the first place is because I watched that movie and I loved it.
Really weird to think about how if Taiwan was never demographically dominated by Han Chinese just about 200 years ago, we would consider it consider it a part of South East Asia today like the Phillippines, and not an East Asian country like China.
@we_drive_east Because they're trying to project a political argument onto an apolitical post without knowing anything about anthropology, genetics or linguistics.
@LordIxabert I'm sorry, I will never be able to pronounce Don Quijote in any other way than "Don Ki-ho-tay". Not because I love Spain, but because the Japanese store brand by that name has a catchy song where they sing it repeatedly: https://t.co/t3J4poviNT
@salinechicken35 Yeah lmao, people started assuming that I hate the Han Chinese for colonizing Taiwan and that I think they should give it back to the natives. Totally brainrotted.
@PalmyrPar Disappointed that he only wrote that tweet about the Irish people rioting about the migrant killing an innocent person, and not the Irish state selling aluminum to Russia, which would actually be more in-line with his schtick.
@GrkemYa61745713@adamcchang It is actually a strong argument, if you consider the fact that the Taiwanese natives are Austronesian like the Filipinos, while the Okinawans are Japonic (not Japanese, Japanese are a branch of the Japonic family.)
