This Gibson Original 50’s J-45 guitar is an American classic. Famously dubbed “The Workhorse” for a reason, this guitar is very versatile. It’s just one of the many fine instruments we put to work in our studio.
I picked this fine instrument up in Bozeman, MT. On a rack full of J45 guitars this one really stood out - warmer, fuller, richer, and with more sustain than every other J45 in the store. When you find a standout guitar like this, don’t let it get away!

Tracking guitars in the studio today and then taking a few days off to celebrate the 250th birthday of our country, spend time with family, and work on some personal projects! #musicproduction
@RedWavePress 1 game suspension is an insult. this should be a lengthy suspension and multiple incidents like this should require expulsion from the league completely.
No talking, just a short clip of a lead guitar part soaking in beautiful, rich, analog reverb.
The XL305R from @audioscapeaudio is undeniably cool and unbelievably versatile.

Analog gear isn't magic - but when used properly can add weight, depth, warmth, and character.
That said - It's not about the gear, it's about serving the song.
Some songs benefit from heavy automation and massive plug-in counts, some benefit from the musicality and simplicity of analog, and many songs fall somewhere in-between.
Whatever your sound, your style, and your song calls for - we can handle it!
@AnneErickson Derek Trucks playing with Clapton and his band. The talent on that stage was insane! I’ve never heard Layla hit so hard! Clapton was amazing of course but Trucks was absolutely incredible. Flawless night of music.
In this video I share initial impressions on a guitar cable from Rattlesnake Cable Company and talk about one of several tests I often run on new cables - the noise floor test.
Bottom line - how much noise does this cable introduce into the system?
I compare the results across 5 cables. Spoiler alert - I have a 25 year old cable that is still quieter than every new cable I've bought in the last couple of years - but only by a fraction of a decibel...
Peak Creative's owner/engineer/producer shares a few thoughts on 30+ years of making music and highlights his ONLY piece of studio equipment that remains from when he first started doing professional music production ~ 30 years ago.
From that story, Matt draws a comparison to making music that will sound amazing for years to come by paying a little extra attention to the little details that matter.
Not said but implied - Sometimes this means spending a few dollars extra, sometimes it just means spending a little more time, and sometimes it means finding the right people to work with. Also, expensive doesn't necessarily mean quality - Be intentional with where you put your time, energy, and money.
Stop making excuses and start making music!
At the risk of sounding like an old man giving a “back in my day” speech… do you realize how incredibly blessed we are to have access to the tools we have today?
Last year, I mixed a song in the woods. Literally 10 ft from the campfire, sitting at a makeshift table with my MacBook, Pro Tools, headphones, and Starlink.
In a few weeks I’m tackling an even more impressive feat, recording a live performance - in the woods. No electricity, and miles away from anything. My MacBook can power this interface, including driving my headphones, cranking out gain to several mics, and providing phantom power. Oh, and I’ll have a lightning fast SSD hard drive powered by the Mac also. If I get low on juice I have a small battery that I can plug in via USB-C to power everything for at least a couple hours more.
Sure, I have better preamps and converters in my studio, and a selection of nice tube mics that I wouldn’t be taking out in the woods, better monitoring, etc…. But the point is that making REAL, ORIGINAL music is more accessible than ever, with insanely powerful tools in pretty much every budget. You don’t need a big console, expensive mics, pricey software to get started.
I’ve got world class gear and decades of experience and can help you sound amazing - but if your budget or preference would be to start smaller and learn as you go, there really isn’t anything stopping you - except yourself.
Squeezing in a last minute addition to this song before doing final edits and mixing. A Nashville-tuned guitar is a great tool for enhancing a track, without overpowering the main parts.

I’ve been quiet on here lately but it’s just because I’ve been so busy! Making music, doing photography and videography, and balancing all that with a “real job”.
Leadership is trying to jam three wildly different, deeply complex bills through a single vote, each packed with pages upon pages of policy. How could they realistically expect that to pass?
What happened to single-issue, single-page bills? Why did we abandon transparency and simplicity?
