@ryendavid@ruben_i Both places I was planning to travel to in April, and yet they’re worse now than when they were the only hotspots in the west. But ok. Maybe it was the curfews.
@ryendavid@ruben_i I mean... I’m gonna need some examples of countries that took MORE DRACONIAN measures only to see case rates EXPLODE. Because I don’t buy this based on what I’ve seen. And yeah zero COVID is clearly not attainable, but less is.
@ryendavid@ruben_i Congrats! I love you man, but you’re not who I’m worried about. Curfews are a perfectly acceptable tool. Restaurants aren’t doing a ton of business after 11. But bars, who have loose enforcement of rules, and where loud music and alcohol become a mitigating factor, are.
@ryendavid@ruben_i This isn’t H1N1 or swine flu, man. And Ebola is ridiculously hard to spread in the 1st world because of our, oh let’s see, REGULATIONS to stop the spread of goddamn salmonella.
@ryendavid@ruben_i lol so I’m supposed to believe China tested 500k people a day in one region & that their reported numbers are accurate. Ok. Look... Yeah managing a pandemic is going to necessitate rules that can be (mis)characterized as authoritarian. But it’s a necessary part of a civilization.
@ryendavid@ruben_i Sadly, in Florida curfews are the ONLY thing local governments are allowed to enforce thanks to Desantis’ executive order pre-empting local governments ability to enforce regulations aimed at minimizing spread.
