In a historic moment yesterday, China brokered the signing of the “Beijing Declaration” by 14 Palestinian factions, aimed at ending division and strengthening Palestinian unity. 🇨🇳🇵🇸

The “Beijing Declaration” has achieved several important consensuses: unity among the 14 factions, affirmation of the Palestine Liberation Organisation as the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, the need for an interim government dedicated to post-conflict reconstruction in Gaza, and eventually the establishment of an independent State of Palestine in accordance with UN resolutions.

The declaration also saw the two largest rival factions in Palestine, Hamas and Fatah, set aside their differences in the face of Israel’s ongoing genocide.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasised China’s enduring support for the Palestinian cause, noting that China was among the first countries to recognise the PLO and the State of Palestine.
