The EU issued nearly half a million tourist visas to Russians in 2025.

Not to dissidents. Not to refugees. Tourist visas. For holidays. The highest number since Putin sent his army into Ukraine, up 10% on the year. France, proud, principled, morally unimpeachable France, raised its Russian approvals by 23% in a single year.

When the numbers got awkward, the EU did what the EU does. It deleted them. Russian visa statistics quietly vanished from the official Schengen tracker in early 2026. Eight countries had to formally demand they be put back.

They hid the data. Not the policy. The data.

Ten countries, the Nordics, the Baltics, and the Netherlands among them, had to write an actual letter to get this onto a ministers’ meeting agenda. The remaining seventeen apparently saw nothing strange about any of this.

No law is coming before summer. Because before any law can exist, there must first be a proposal. Before the proposal, a consultation. Before the consultation, a scoping exercise. Before the scoping exercise, a working group must be convened to determine whether a scoping exercise is appropriate. The working group requires terms of reference. The terms of reference must be approved by a subcommittee. The subcommittee reports to a committee. The committee feeds into a framework. The framework informs a roadmap. The roadmap gets amended seventeen times and renamed a “strategic pathway.” The strategic pathway is then circulated to member states for comment. France requests more time. The whole thing goes back to the working group.

Any legislation won’t pass before 2027. Possibly 2031, if Italy has a strong summer season.

Ukraine is entering year five. Russians are entering Italy.

Four years of sanctions packages, candlelit solidarity vigils, and solemn declarations about European values, and Paris increased its Russian tourist approvals by nearly a quarter.

The EU didn’t fail to stop the missiles. It didn’t even try to stop the sunbathing.

It's genuinely amazing that despite everything Bungie has done to Destiny over the years, it still maintains such a large, devoted fanbase.

Look at what they’ve pulled over the last decade:

• Vaulted $200+ of paid expansion content
• Changed the director to a mobile UI
• Released Lightfall and the world's worst MacGuffin (The Veil)
• Sunset half the weapons
• Locked more and more cosmetics behind Eververse
• Piece-mealed content via Dungeon Keys, Battle Passes, and Event Passes
• Built a predatory, FOMO-driven seasonal economy
• Maintained the world’s worst onboarding experience for new players
• Paywalled basic features like transmog
• Subjected us to player levels of grind
• The absolute disaster that was D2 Year 1

And this isn't even touching the obscene leadership failures, layoffs, and various studio scandals.

Yet, against seemingly all these odds, the game lasted 9+ years and has a crazy loyal community. It’s an incredible testament to how good Destiny is at its core, but it's also a wild case study of how much tertiary bullshit consumers will endure when the core loop hits just right.

Just wish they'd put Destiny 1 on PC.

As an American I have something I want to tell Europeans.

Enough with your fucking defeatism.

You once possessed some of the most powerful militaries in the world, act like it.

Europe's enemy is solely Russia and that's it. Unlike the United States, Europe doesn't run around making worldwide enemies, and unlike the US, Europe isn't Israel's bitch.

Some Europeans think the United States leaving NATO would be a bad thing. I think Europe should look to its own defense. Two to three years of peace in the last 51 years, that's the US Record. In those 51 Years, with the exception of the war here in Ukraine and the former Yugoslavia, Europe has been at peace during that time.

As an American living in Europe, I can tell you, Americans don't think like Europeans. They only think about themselves and what's best for them.

You as Europeans need to stop thinking less of yourselves, you're far better than you think you are.
