@GregsTakeOn@PatrickMcEnroe@megynkelly Not really...coaches have to win & they pick the best players from hotbeds of their sports. Unfortunately, that's not the USA, despite having the best of every opportunity. Check the starting five on Illinois MBB team that made the Final Four. Also check the NBA MVPs since 2018.
@tennis4life13@PatrickMcEnroe@megynkelly 💯💯💯 In my opinion, part of the fix includes more tennis in physical ed classes, out-of-school social comp in elem/middle school, more attn/focus on HS coaches/teams, better connection bw HS & college tennis & a team tennis comp in the Olympics.
@deck2349@PatrickMcEnroe You mean like Men's Basketball? “The best players in the NBA now are European,” Illinois coach Brad Underwood said in the fall. “We’re following a trend.”

@MLS_AfterDark@MattBrownEP Now do basketball. "Brad Underwood on international recruiting: 'It fits our university... It fit me, it fit what I like. The best players in the NBA are European players now. We're following a trend, it's exciting for them to come here and play.'"

@PhilipNILIP I remember well the article you wrote as well as the ITA's letter to Judge Wilkens. The writing was on the wall ever since House v NCAA was settled. It's easy to point out what the "problems" are...see comments below. We gotta figure out a solution for college tennis & fast.
@Flapper51@PhilipNILIP Don't hate the player, hate the game. The ADs are simply following the incentives...nothing cowardly about it. Tennis has to adapt to the new incentive structures...or we'll continue to lose teams.
@johnkim575 @PhilipNILIP Now do basketball. "As the NBA has become more int'l (the past 7 MVPs all hail from outside the US), Illinois has followed the league’s lead. “The best players in the NBA now are European,” Illinois coach Brad Underwood said. “We’re following a trend.” https://t.co/3wmqeMySdI
@PatrickMcEnroe The problem is House v NCAA, not foreign playes. If college tennis just “defends tradition,” & doesn’t address the structural issues shaping collegiate athletics, tennis will keep losing. The sport has to adapt to this reality, not argue around it. https://t.co/ypcteUnkg3
@PatrickMcEnroe College basketball doesn't seem to have a problem with foreign athletes. Four guys from the Balkans took Illinois to the Final Four. As the coach says, "The best players are from Europe & we are following a trend." https://t.co/3wmqeMykoa
