@Ecowas_cdc participates in the West Africa Regional Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) Implementation and Impact Review Meeting, organized by Africa CDC. The meeting aims to review progress, identify gaps, and reflect on lessons learned to ensure the platform’s continued relevance and effectiveness.
@Ecowas_cdc participation underscores its commitment to the coordination of @ecowas_cedeao member states in the innovative approaches for ECHO platform implementation and to strengthening regional collaboration in advancing best practices, knowledge sharing, and public health preparedness and response.
The ECHO platform supports Member States in addressing cross-border health security challenges by promoting South-South learning, equitable access to expertise, and enhanced collaboration across the region. This aligns closely with @Ecowas_cdc mandate to strengthen cross-border surveillance and coordination.
The review of the ECHO platform seeks to fulfill these objectives, strengthening regional health security by connecting experts with practitioners and promoting open dialogue among Member States and partners, to enhance program design and implementation.

The ECOWAS Regional Centre for Surveillance and Disease Control @Ecowas_cdc participated in the Africa CDC Continental Cross-Border Surveillance Partners’ Coordination Meeting, held from 25–27 August 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
This initiative seeks to strengthen collaboration among African Union (AU) Member States and enhance border health surveillance. The primary objective of the meeting was to map and review ongoing cross-border surveillance initiatives led by AU Member States and partners. Given the involvement of multiple stakeholders often operating under different frameworks, the meeting emphasized the need to harmonize approaches for improved coordination, effectiveness, and alignment with initiatives already being implemented by @Ecowas_cdc in @ecowas_cedeao region.
@ecowas_cedeao cross-border initiatives in West Africa have been instrumental in advancing regional health security. Key achievements include the development and validation of the ECOWAS Cross-Border Surveillance Strategic Plan by all Member States, the adoption and use of a harmonized curriculum for Points of Entry (POE), the regional training of trainers, and the provision of materials and equipment to support cross-border health activities, among others.
During the meeting, @Ecowas_cdc delivered a presentation highlighting its mandate, areas of intervention, ongoing cross-border initiatives, available resources, tools, and potential areas for collaboration. The Centre also presented how its regional efforts align with the Africa CDC framework, thereby avoiding duplication and strengthening synergies.
@Ecowas_cdc reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Africa CDC and other partners to reinforce cross-border surveillance and information sharing.
