“No Bride Price, No Polygamy”- Lady Lists Her Marriage Rules
A young lady named has gained attention on social media for her marriage conditions.
She made it clear that she will not accept a traditional bride price for herself. She also stated that she has no intention of adding a husband’s surname to her own, and that any children from the marriage would carry both parents’ names.
One thing I like about Critical Appraisals is that, you'd need to provide a rationale for your choices. While your rationale is guided by a rubric, you're able to fully assess variables that'd affect your reasoning.
Parental sacrifice is such an overlooked concept. The fact that it gets downplayed as what parents are "supposed" to do, is unfair to parents. There are responsibilities and then there's sacrifice.
One time, I was talking to my Mom. We were discussing a woman and her husband who barely cared for their kids. I told her even if you give the kids stuff, they take it & eat it.
My Mom said, "It's very shameful. When I became a Mom, I hated ice cream because my kids liked it..
So whenever your Dad bought, I wanted you people to enjoy it so, I just said I didn't like it. That way, your Dad wouldn't insist I join". My heart broke for my Mom that day. All I kept thinking about, was how much my parents deprived themselves for us to enjoy all we did.
I can't imagine admitting that the only reason a person isn't disrespecting me or I'm not disrespecting someone is because they have money/leverage. I don't thank my parents enough because, many of you were raised badly.
This isn't a depressive rant. It's an acceptance rant. It's the basis of my resilience. It's why I never break. It's why I am able to bounce back after a suckerpunch. I anticipate the suffering so, I never drown.
"How do you manage pain?"
I suffer. Even in my imagination, I suffer. I always run with the worst case scenarios. I made peace with suffering as the crux of life. So, I don't break when I suffer. I run towards it, not away.
It's to bring solace to others as they suffer. Only then, can you endure yours. It's to experience it so, you can empathise with others when they do.
Until you learn to suffer, you'd continue to break at every pain. Immerse yourself in your suffering & move on, awaiting the next.

At this point, I haven't been paid for roughly 2 months (June and July). And I'm wondering how people without jobs or a means of livelihood are able to survive 😭😭
I finally took the time to share my personal thoughts from the Pandemic Agreement negotiations. I've been on a high since the adoption and finally had the headspace to put my thoughts to paper:

I deleted LinkedIn long time ago. Haven't posted there in a while. I don't like to talk about the projects I work on.
But I see that the world wants to see what you're doing every damn time. Where's the balance between quietly existing/working and putting yourself out there?
After over 3 years of negotiations, WHO Member States have finalized a draft #PandemicAccord to make the world safer from future pandemics.
The draft agreement will now be submitted to WHO’s Member States meeting at the #WHA78 for consideration and adoption
Proposals within the text include:
✅ Boosting global collaboration on prevention & preparedness
✅ Strengthening health systems & R&D worldwide
✅ Creating a fair system for pathogen access & benefit-sharing
✅ Building a skilled global health emergency workforce
The proposal respects national sovereignty—the draft agreement does not provide WHO any authority to direct, order, alter or prescribe national laws or policies, or mandate States to take specific actions.

@Chelaa_Langat So, work towards it. Appreciate every little thing. Don't wait for the big things. Let people look at you weird when you tell them what's exciting for you 😂😂
This reminds me a lot of my Dad. He lived his life in relative stability. By every standard, an intelligent man. He went to study in the USA on scholarship and graduated 'Cum Laude' and "Dean's list" and proceeded directly for a PhD.
Here’s one story that shaped me in many ways. Throughout school, I was always first in class. It came naturally to me. I understood quite easily, could memorize with ease, and could read between the lines before most people around me could finish a sentence.
