In the booth skyping with @jacksonpublick as we record my final Dr. Venture session (for the forthcoming feature-length series finale). What a long, strange, scientastic trip it's been.
How messed up is the @verizonfios equipment return process?
1) Sent me the wrong sized box. Twice.
2) Includes a slip that either absolutely needs to be returned with the device or held on to as a receipt.
3) This is the status website:
We also support researchers with tools like RAD Lab β a sandbox environment to help facilitate R&D while maintaining compliance and still giving researchers access to the latest technology. The faster we can experiment, the faster we can make progress. https://t.co/JPuDxQ4P16
We are happy to announce the launch of RAD Lab (Rapid Application Development) as an open source project allowing users to quickly deploy data science environments using IaC on their Google Cloud infrastructure.Make sure to try it out. https://t.co/thrONjffG4
If you run a community that regularly has 10+ developers show up, you have created an asset worth at least $50k. The mean cost to hire is very high. Gather some metrics on who's looking, what level they are, what size of company they are looking to join, and send that to sponsors
@BrotherOffice @IAmAru@pheared@pdewacht Thanks for reaching out! It's awesome that you provide Linux drivers for most of your printers. It would be extra cool if you also provided drivers that would work on a Raspberry Pi (eg ARM cpu).
"I can't set up my Raspberry Pi because my two spare monitors are both too old and I can't find a DVI-to-HDMI adapter" is simultaneously an incisive satire of my entire existence and a very real annoyance
@IAmAru@pheared @BrotherOffice @pdewacht After still more digging, I found this forum post that recommended downloading the latest driver source code, editing a header file, compiling the driver from source, and re-installing #linux

Since then it's been great, though.
@IAmAru@pheared @BrotherOffice @pdewacht .. or so it seemed. The first few test pages printed fine, but it soon became clear that nothing with a medium-or-larger sized image would print. After doing some more digging, this is a common problem with my model of Brother printer.
me: come over
Malcolm Gladwell: I cant
Me: I need someone to explain a very obvious concept to me by cherry picking evidence from various scientific studies to give an ordinary truth the gloss of counterintuitive genius
