I think the engineers intentionally undercount the real analog data quantity. It is currently impossible to digitally capture the actual amount of data in analog sound. The closest we have is DSD audio, which doesn't do sampling. Coincidentally, high-quality DSD files are huge, and still don't rise to the quality level of analog sound.

The other issue is that pretty much all digital msuic filters out certain frequencies. I've argued before that just because we can't audibly hear those frequencies does not mean they don't matter.
