At the height of One Million Checkboxes's popularity I thought I'd been hacked. A few hours later I was tearing up, extraordinarily proud of some brilliant teens.
A thread about my favorite story from running OMCB....
@dannygoodall@lancew@pavsmith Nice!
Perl was the first language I got properly paid to write.
Other languages have paid my bills as well, but Perl is dear to me and I'm lucky enough to still get paid to work with it.
@PerlWChallenge is also where I dabble in new/other languages like recently Roc.
Why did I sponsor @PerlWChallenge ?
Because it's an amazing project that I've enjoyed participating in as a "player". I've used it to help learn
But mainly because @cpan_author is awesome and a force for positivity and anything I can do to support this amazing human is worth it
Hey @keyboardio if you ever do a vertical ergo mouse to match my Model100 keyboard I am totally ready to send you all the money!!
(If somehow you had a way so the receiver was on the cable between two parts of the keyboard that would be awesome)
Last week, I felt #Perl solved the problem more easily/elegantly; this week #RocLang seemed better suited.
Thank you @cpan_author for the project, support and friendship.
Did another @PerlWChallenge this week. Why?
B cause it's a great learning tool.
I solved the problem first in #Perl a language I know well. Then solved it in #roclang which is new to me.
The act of solving the same problem in two different ways helps me appreciate +/- of each
That said... Sometimes you have no choice but to use another tool, so getting practice in using new tools is vital if you want to be able to do all the tasks you might need to tackle.
I think solving this week's @PerlWChallenge was a good reminder that #Perl is the perfect tool for plenty of problems.
I might be biased and openly admit I know Perl better than Roc, but it was much much simpler in Perl than roc.
