If not for Pete Rose, I probably would never had a chance to become a @Reds announcer. 1986, owners are colluding not to sign free agents, even released players like me. I was turned down by everyone, including the @Reds. Day before pitchers report I go to where Pete is taping a commercial. He said, "Chris, great to see you. Who are you going to be with this year?" I said, "Didn't you hear? I'm with the Reds." He said, "Great!" and I replied, "I'm just kidding, Pete, I spoke with Bill Bergesch (GM) and he wanted nothing to do with me." Pete looked me in the eye and replied, "That SOB doesn't run this ball club, I do. You come down to Al Lopez Field tomorrow at 8:00am and I'll have a uniform with your name on it in your locker." I thought, Damn, Bergesch is going to hate me but I've got Pete Rose on my side. I like my chances.

That's how I signed with the Reds.
