@1thefunnybone1 @S_Marcescens_ QC slides show good gram staining technique. The criteria for a good QC (quality control) slide would be the presence of red rods (bacillus) and blue circles (cocci). Normally you gram stain a QC slide along with the bacteria slide to confirm that the classification is accurate.

My secret: I may be an intelligent and resourceful disease, but I never graduated from school. So you can most likely find me hanging about elementary schools, middle schools, and day cares. Trying to get an education! 🎓

I may be a disease, I’m not a monster. If you think you have me then be sure to do the following: stay home to keep me from spreading, see a doctor if you have a persistent cough, wash your hands frequently, get vaccinated to prevent me, take the appropriate antibiotics, and rest

Fun fact: Early in my life, I can mimic the symptoms of the flu, pneumonia, or just an aggressive case of the common cold! This makes me especially unique and threatening because I have already spread to other hosts and doctors can misdiagnose me giving me more time to invade!

Fun Fact: I can spread to many different people before you even know you have contracted me! This is the most common way I get around and it makes me that much more dangerous to young children.

Pertussis is highly contagious and is spread through respiratory droplets in the air from human to human. It is spread through coughing, sneezing or the expelling of respiratory fluids of some kind. Close contact and sharing a breathing space is also a way of spreading disease.

The Disease Project is a hypothetical scenario where a reemergence of Pertussis has broken out in a real geographical location. And our duty is to act as the CDC in containment and safety of the community. We would be honored if you would be our mascot and give us your blessing.

@WhoopiGoldberg Dear Mrs Whoopi, my name is Erin Gaynor and I am a representative from a high school project group from California. I am in Medical Technology and my class has assigned a Disease Project. My group and I received the disease B. Pertussis (or whooping cough).

B. Pertussis is a bacterial disease which is toxin-mediated due to the pertussis toxin excreted through the cell envelope. These toxins are the virulence factor of the B. Pertussis bacteria.

-Scientific name- Bordetella pertussis
The disease this bacterium causes is pertussis also known as whooping cough. A similar species of bacteria called Bordetella parapertussis causes a mild form of this disease. These species differ by the toxins they release.
