What a day to remember!

What a memorable day it was!. Yesterday we were honored to host Miss Universe Uganda contestants 2026 at our demostration farm based in Kyankwanzi district. We showcased different sustainable farming practices and had a nature walk through our conservation area.

What a memorable day it was!. Yesterday we were honored to host Miss Universe Uganda contestants 2026 at our demostration farm based in Kyankwanzi district. We showcased different sustainable farming practices and had a nature walk through our conservation area.

We also had an exihibition of some of the organic food, tea spices, herbal medicine grown at the farm as well crafts made by our community women. The queens also planted trees as a climate action.

While it is raining in most parts of Uganda, in Kyankwanzi District where the AIBIS Agroecology Demonstration Farm is located, it is hot hot! But we are resilient. This evening, AIBIS staff and some beneficiaries joined hands to water plants in the permaculture gardens. The water is usually collected in ponds whenever it rains.

It could possibly be because there are no pollinators around. The use of agro chemicals not just on your farm, even from neighbours kills bees which are most important pollinators at least in Uganda

As the second week of #COP30 unfolds, AIBIS reminds the delegates what is at stake for many farmers in Africa who depend mainly on rain fed Agriculture; a change in one season sends many families into #hunger, shakes prices and incomes. The urgency is clear: #ClimateAction for #smallholderfarmers is critical. Let COP30 be remembered for fulfilled promises not the usal empty promises

Earlier today, a team from AIBIS was hosted at the Agency for Integrated Rural Development (AFIRD) where they explored areas of cooperation and collaboration especially in the fields of Permaculture and Agroecology. AIBIS has embarked on an exercise of identifying and documenting all the plant species (taxonomy) on its reserved conservation area in Kyankwanzi District to provide a point of reference for those interested in conserving them or using them for social and economic purposes.

As the International Lead Paint Prevention Week of Action ends today, we urge our government to ensure manufacturers do not add lead in paint. A regulation setting lead limit of 90ppm in all paints is long overdue

Lead poisoning especially among the children is real but because it is a slow killer just like mercury, it is not given the attention it deserves.

As we celebrate Independence from colonial rule today in Uganda, let us not forget that independence of the different households begins with their ability to produce their own food. Let us shun GMOs, let us all work towards attaining and maintaining Food Sovereignty.
