He should be pleased, as his competition was three of the strongest men of the san'yaku, Sekiwake Daieisho, Sekiwake Wakamotoharu and Komusubi Nishikigi--taking wins from them all with the exception of a single bout.

Kirishima is considered by many as the favorite to attain March's Emperor's Cup despite the expected participation of Yokozuna Terunofuji who revived his wavering confidence with an impressive ninth championship (as a sekitori) in January.

With a yusho in November, followed by an 11-4 in January, the JSA may consider promoting Kirishima to yokozuna should he dominate Haru with a resounding yusho. Not wanting to jinx himself, the ozeki speaks cautiously of the next tournament being his master's (former Ozeki Kirishima Kazuhiro) last before his retirement in April. Nothing would please the current ozeki more than to deliver a yokozuna to Michinoku Stable before his master's 65th birthday.
