Charlie Kirk has spoken on college campuses knowing his views would spark fierce opposition and protests. He valued discourse, especially with those he disagreed with. How many of us can say we truly engage civilly with those who we disagree deeply?

As a professor teaching students on public policy, constitution, civil rights, and political issues, I emphasize the importance of open discourse and tolerance for differing views. It’s the bedrock of our democracy.

At Jessup we instill these values of courage and respectful dialogue. We are conscious of our calling and remind students to engage with humility, patience, and love, while striving for unity even in our differences (Ephesians 4:2-3 ).

I pray for Charlie’s family and our increasingly divided nation.
May his memory be eternal.
