The best thing you can do when putting together a low budget film is consider what you *actually* need to pull off your vision. Film is inherently built on needless excess. Write for your budget instead of creating unethical working conditions.
What a beautiful oddity THE SAMURAI AND THE PRISONER is. Kurosawa’s beguiling portrait of a warlord who hates killing reads like a heartfelt tribute from one disruptor to another. One of KK’s most confounding—a true Cannes standout. Words for @TheFilmStage https://t.co/BHzsaew6Zk
Evening viewing recommendation? On @criterionchannl, watch the exclusive streaming premiere of Thierry Frémaux's LUMIÈRE, LE CINÉMA! (2025) — a glorious (re)telling of the genesis of cinema and a profound meditation on the beautiful world captured—and the mysterious world imagined—by the Lumière brothers. https://t.co/vL65XOwloJ
'Blue Heron' is the most acclaimed film of 2026, and director Sophy Romvari says its existence can be credited to grants provided by the Canadian government at both the script and production stages.
“I really did make exactly the movie I wanted to make.... When I started making work in Canada, I was not aware of the privilege of living in a country that has access to arts funding. The version of this film that I would’ve made within the American system would be very, very different — and I don’t know if that one would’ve gotten distribution.” https://t.co/3IJQEP8Mfn
