Cycling is only fatally dangerous because of cars.

Anyone who thinks cycling is inherently fatally dangerous needs to read about, or visit, Paris. There, cycling was once dangerous. Today it is not. The difference? Planning and street design (and attitude- which has dramatically shifted in just one decade).

How we plan for cars, how we plan for cycling, and how drivers act toward cyclists determines the danger.

I’ll never forget the day my conservative, SUV driving father-in-law changed his mind about bike lanes: “I want my daughter-in-law to be safe.”

We need to recognize that *scale* matters before making sweeping changes.

I’m afraid we’ve lost our tolerance for nuance. We are swinging to extremes.

It’s entirely possible that Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is operating at an appropriate scale for a city centre airport, and that it should neither be significantly expanded nor eliminated.
